if all roads lead to Rome why am i always stuck round dead end homes and always stoned seeing monochrome tones in every pair of eyes that meet my own why do i take two pills daily to make my reality bend to the wills of spending and writing checks so i can pay off bills i checked off months ago or was it days ago? it might have been yesterday though i've been festering in the fright that i never paid them off and the dollar signs i thought i'd find hopped out of my mind in the ides of march and marched to the sides of every arch enemy i spent years thinking were really friends to me i figure roads really configure barely a fraction of what must be a lack of backbone and not just a quick way home
Measure for Measure: To Rhyme Or Not To Rhyme
If Iâve heard it once, Iâve heard it a thousand times: âMusic is a language.â
âWow!â I used to think, âGreat! Now show me the dictionary so I can stop aimlessly fishing for notes and know what the hell Iâm saying.â
Well, slowly, painfully over the years, I learned my lesson. Iknowwhere theyâre headed next â down the primrose path of music theory. And I know whatâs waiting there: a dead end.
Finally, after a lifetime of waiting, I decided to write my own dictionary of musical meaning. And what I discovered is that you have to write your own. Thatâs what all the readers of this column have been doing since March 2012: listening to hit songs from multiple angles, soaking up the significance of rhythm, harmony, phrase arcs, interval color, scale tone moods, and more.
