Last night's international Intention Experiment
Yesterday evening, I joined the international Intention Experiment run by Lynne McTaggart. I've started two of Lynne's books now and am embarrassed to say despite being completely absorbed by them for the first third of each book, somehow I haven't finished them yet. They are full of scientific studies and anecdotes that support the theory of there being one interconnected world of thought/energy and some of the studies written up are mind expanding, to say the least.Â
I also had the opportunity to meet Lynne at the Mind Body Spirit festival in London, entirely by accident. I spotted someone I knew and went to talk to her and she happened to be talking to Lynne who introduced herself. That was one of those surreal moments in life I guess. When you practically have someone's book in your bag and they materialise.Â
Anyway. Last night was an 'Intention Experiment'. The idea was to bring people together online from around the world and ask them to focus on sending love and the intention for healing to a person chosen for the experiment. That's all I knew when I registered.
Due to bandwidth issues I'm guessing, it took 20 minutes to join the site so the introduction was well underway as I connected. Lynne explained that they had two people who were in need of healing and both would have their brainwaves measured throughout the experiment. One person would be chosen, the other an experimental control.Â
The person they chose was someone suffering from PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) from serving in the Iraq war. PTSD has an incredible impact on people's lives post-conflict and this man was suffering a great deal on an ongoing basis. I found the rhetoric that he was particularly deserving because he had served his country troubling though. I felt compassion for both this man and his combatants - both would have been harmed in the conflict environment.Â
We all focused on the intention of reducing this man's anxiety by 25% and that he should be returned to full health, and were asked to concentrate on extending the blue bars on his brainwave detection graph. Lynne talked us into a meditative state (powering up as she described it) and then we focused on the intention as music played.Â
The healing session was for 10 minutes. I went into a similar state to my reiki experiences, almost drifting off to sleep. At times I was aware of odd thoughts/dreams beginning to creep into my mind and re-focused. It felt quite trance-like. The more I focused on the person and saw them on screen, the more compassion I felt for them. I saw them as a child and my heart went out to them. This often happens in my reiki shares.Â
Afterwards, there were a great deal of comments from participants who had said they had had powerful energetic experiences. These were similar to the thoughts people often share after reiki. We are to hear the results in a month or so. I'm intrigued. I expect that perhaps both people will improve - there was a lot of concern for the person who hadn't been chosen. I wonder if you took part and what your experiences were?
