“Should I be scared?” She crossed her arms, and there was a bit of a challenge in her voice there; Janet was a Delco girl, at the end of the day. She’d square up with whoever, if she had to.
“Doesn’t sound fine.” She blew out a sympathetic sigh. “Hundreds of years? Sounds to me like it fucking blows.”
A little more self-consciously, she added, “Is there, like, something I should do right now, or...?”

So used to either nosy strangers, or strangers thinking she was trouble, she only paused to consider the possibility that the stranger could be friendly after she had thrown herself back in the sea.
Alas, it was a little too late. There was no mistaking the fins that flashed, reflecting some stray light as she dove into the waves. She had been noticed. Perhaps some company wouldn’t hurt, not even now that she was not expecting it or looking for it. “Got caught by some folks who thought I could make wishes come true. Came here to rest. That’s all...”

Honestly, he could understand the entertainment value of things, given that Melvin himself was usually up to such antics if he was being honest about his motives. Yet there was one area for certain that he drew the line at, which was thievery. He didn’t steal, no questions asked. Now could he impart such values upon other people?
There was trying and then failing, so sometimes it seemed pointless to do either one.
“Just ‘cause they won’t miss it doesn’t mean that it’s right to do. I mean, just ‘cause something is bad ‘or ya doesn’t mean ya should do it, right?” There’s a cant of his head, eyes focused on the other. “I mean, I can appreciate the chaos aspect, but really, mate? I think my morals don’t match up with yours.”

Because I’m only in my thirties, and they feel like they’ve lasted an eternity,” Cara replied, assuming that had more to do with her time with Analiese and putting all of her focus into hunting than anything else. Still, she added, “I can’t imagine being alive for centuries.” As for him asking what the holiday was called again, a small laugh escaped her lips and she shook her head, “I’m sorry, I’m not laughing at you; I just have a hard enough time keeping track of what day or week it is, let alone what month. But this one, this one is pretty obvious even for me: people are preparing for Christmas.”
