Day 69: On Cueing
This week's Tuesday Tea episode focused on cueing in fitness classes.
On my mind: I've been served lots of content for T. Anderson method (you can google) of cueing which is, quite actually, the opposite of cueing. There is no cueing.
Participants come to class, have to discover what the WOD is, and silently follow the instructor. I originally intended to judge this method, but instead, I've increased my curiosity.
Some swear by this method: it keeps the focus, it becomes almost meditative, it's less disruptive.
But I'm so used to big visual cues, auditory cues, and form cues. Could I handle teaching a class with none of those things?!
As a visual learner, I like to see things. I like to draw things. I like numbers, nods, winks, head tilts. Since I enjoy these things, I've incorporated many of them into my classes.
But I've also adapted. Even though most of my movement methodology trainings have indicated not to use auditory cues (some even discouraging the use of mics/headphones), I've recognized that some of my clients prefer this method.
I try to do a mixture of both.
I add context and deep dive on this week's podcast! Check it out on YouTube, Spotify, or Apple Podcasts.
WOD: 45 min bootcamp, outdoor walking in the sunshine!
