When they finally stopped the bus, Gideon didnât bother waiting to exit the front. He knew how to open the emergency exit in the back, so he did so without a second thought. Just to be civilised he didnât bother to close it, instead he held out his hand to help the person behind him out. âItâs faster this way, innit?â
This entire summit pissed Lorna off. Listening to self-righteous humans stand up and talk about how she was a threat to their children and their safety infuriated her. Listening to Raven and Charles pander to the bigots didnât feel much better.
She scrunched her hand tightly, her nails digging into her palm to stop herself from snarkily replying to this last speaker. Who thought this was a good idea? She really shouldâve gone to the bar with Gideon. Though in retrospect, the hair of the dog drink that morning was probably not a good idea.
âMutants are dangerous if unknown to the public. We have seen this play out. Our children are at risk. Our schools, our cities. The police need to know who is a potential threat to best protect our citizens. That is why I am proud...â
Lorna... Lorna!
She closed her eyes, wanting to be anywhere else right now. She already knew what happened when police were allowed to assume mutants were dangerous.
Lorna! Theyâre coming!
âGo away...â she muttered. It couldn't be real. She knew that. No one in this state knew her name except Pietro and he wasn't even here. Besides that wasn't his voice. It was younger, more scared. But she couldnât help the prickling feeling of unrest.
"Stop it." She stood, needing air, needing to be anywhere else, ignoring the teachers.
âMiss. Sit down.â Her comment had caught the guardâs attention, and he assumed she was trying to cause trouble. His biggest mistake was putting his hand on Lorna to try to stop her. Especially when she could feel the gun on his hip. Without thinking about where she was -- too lost in a memory of running -- she lashed out, slamming him into the wall.
The speaker on stage stopped talking as the crowd around Lorna rippled with shouts and whispers. Mutant... dangerous.... Lorna looked around, fear clear on her face. Sheâd been here before, with people determined to show she was dangerous.
Iâm Lorna, Iâm going to help you... Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â ...Lorna! Help!
With the exception of the school, no one here would believe she could be anything other than dangerous. Especially when she heard the whispers of Magneto. She stared as other guards approached her, stepping back. âDonât touch me. No, donât touch me!â
In the crowd, she saw a face sheâd only seen on the news. Erik Lehnsherr. But he wasnât here. He couldnât be. He was in Eastern Europe, wasnât he? Was she finally really going crazy? Hallucinating more than just memories?
There wasnât enough time to think about that before one of the other guards tried firing his taser at her. Lorna pushed it away. When she saw more than one guard reaching for a gun, she pulled them all into the air. Crumpling the guns into useless metal, she let them drop.
The distraction was enough for one to rush her with pepper spray. Lorna couldnât see, couldnât breathe, couldnât think. Scared, she flung the guard away from her, pulling by their belt.Â
Ophelia watches a little boy she recognizes from the school run past her, nearly knocking her over. She smiles though, it didnât bother her when kids were rambunctious. Sheâd done more than her share raising her siblings, and Isla was a bundle of energy. Up ahead she spots the sign in front of a little alcove, telling her the snack machines were near. She shakes the change in her palm, listening to it jingle as she steps up to one of the machines and taps her chin. âWho charges three dollars for a bag of Cheez-Its?â she asks the other person perusing their options.
To see the Professor hovering in the background made Scott grind his teeth. The Professor was the geneticist who could explain to them how small of a change set people apart, how even something as small as heterochromia was technically a mutation. The x-gene was different sure, but itâs not like people wouldnât judge them for having some kind of brand on their idâs similar to organ donors. As the minutes tick by, heâs itching to just leave because this was becoming an attack on mutants. Apocalypse saw himself as a god, he was only one mutant and the institute stopped him. Why were they being punished because of one guy? Wouldnât that just lead to mutants acting out of fear and desperation?
Just as the thought crossed his mind, he heard the new girl behind him. Just as he turned to glance over, it escalated in what seemed like meer seconds and guards were all ready to attack her. Scott stood up immediately and started counting heads. He started trying to usher the students out of there back up to their rooms knowing full well someone else would help Polaris.

Being the irresponsible adult child that he was, Wade went to a liquor store (that was in the middle of being robbed) and took a couple of bottles with him after handling (killing) the thief. He wasnât exactly nice, but he did sort of apologize for taking the bottles when he left by saying, âI donât have pockets... and I just saved your ass. Call it a hero for hire fee.â When he got back to the shared hotel suite, Wade was a little pissed to see there were already bottles opened in the room.
âFuck! Itâs like you ask a guy to go get drinks only to get rid of him?â Wade threw one of the bottles, but the Professor caught it midair and floated it gently down to the countertop before disappearing into his own private room. âFine, baldy. No one wanted you here anyway!â He made his way to the bar and lifted his mask halfway to speak to the person sitting there, âThis is gonna be one helluva night, huh?â
Jubilee taps her foot against the seat in front of her as she blows a bubble nearly as big as her face. It pops, sticking to her cheeks and nose, but she nonchalantly peels it off before shoving it back in her mouth. She hated bus rides, she hated field trips. Field trips meant supervision, and she didnât like eyes on her all the time watching her like theyâre ready for her to misbehave at any given moment. She catches Hankâs gaze and sticks her bubblegum covered tongue out. When he rolls his eyes and looks away, she gives a victorious and over-exaggerated laugh. âThis fucking sucks,â she sighs as she deflates.
The bus wasnât exactly crowded but it was still strange for Jean to feel so alone. Both Poppy and Josh had opted to stay home, and they were the only two that knew of the secret burning her day in and day out. She rests her head against the window and takes a deep breath, filtering out all the chatter and noise of her schoolmates. Taking a nap was out of the question, but she could try going somewhere else in her mind. Sheâs about to close her eyes when she feels someone sit beside her, and she hopes the breath she lets out isnât as disappointed sounding to them as it is to her. âHey,â she forces a smile when she looks at them.
