Motion pictures: using analog photography in experimental animation. Two disposable Fujifilm cameras, one roll of film each -- approximately 48 stills total.
Discoveries
Everything takes four times as long as it should (at least).
In shooting with a disposable camera, I had no way of knowing how loose or tight these final animations would be. The nice thing was the ability to work quickly and intuitively without any way to check what was actually recorded.
At that point, photography has less of the photographer in it. It becomes more about gesture, timing, and seeing. Severing the screen-based visual feedback loop makes the act of taking a picture with a disposable camera an incredibly different experience than snapping one from the screen of a digital device. I felt noticeably more present. I wonder if the very way we take pictures might have more of a voice in the micro and macro outcomes of social/vernacular photography than may be apparent at first.
The screen obsession might be worse than the photo obsession.
