Windows: Let's schedule your update! Windows: Ok! Right now!
How to Install Windows 10 on a New Hard Drive (in 20 easy steps)
**Please read all of the steps before deciding if this solution is right for you.
Congrats! Â You made the decision to install of Windows 10 on an upgraded OS hard drive! Â If you got your computer years ago (before SSD was popular) then itâs a great opportunity to upgrade to a SSD hard drive while creating a fresh install of Windows 10. Â Besides, you may have upgraded a Windows 7 computer to Windows 8, and then to Windows 8.1, and now Windows 10 - thatâs just messy! Â Sometimes itâs nice to have a clean install!
Hereâs what you do:
#1: Have Windows 7, 8, or 8.1
First, check your OS and make sure you have one of Microsoftâs more recent operating systems.
#2: Reserve your copy of Windows 10
This might seem like a random waiting game, but itâs not - at least thatâs what Microsoft tells us. Â Why do we have to wait? Â Probably so Microsoft can evaluate complaints as they come in, since they know theyâll only get one first impression with Windows 10.
#3: Download and install
Your system will restart several times, but the upgrade should go pretty easily.
#4: Create a recovery flash drive
Windows provides instructions on how to do this here, so Iâll gloss over it now. Â There are also these instructions <- thatâs what I did.
#5: Plug in and boot up
Plug your new SSD hard drive into your computer, and also insert the flash drive into a USB port. Â Boot up off of the USB drive, and install the OS on your new SSD.
Check to see if Windows 10 is activated. Â It wonât be.
#6: Answer Tech support call #1
You might get lucky and this might be it - if so, congrats!  However, in all likelihood you will have a watermark in the bottom-right corner of your screen that says âActivate Windowsâ, and when you try to enter the authentication key from your previous version of windows, youâll get âErrorcode: 0xc004e016âł.
Youâll likely be on hold for about 2 hours - it doesnât really matter if you do the âAnswer Techâ chat or the phone call.  At this point, you should have spent between 3-6 hours on the upgrade.  Congrats on making it this far!
After you wait for 1-2 hours, the Answer Tech wonât help you. Â Theyâll do one of the following:
Suggest that you wait and hope the authentication just takes care of itself
Suggest that you download your old operating system, then upgrade it again all the way through Windows 10, or give up on the new hard drive
Offer to take a ransom fee of $200 (or more) in exchange for a new Windows 10 key that will activate your inactive version of windows
In this case, I recommend waiting two days to see if the authentication takes care of itself, but it wonât.
#7: Answer Tech support call #2
After some careful thought, you realize âwhy canât you just use your genuine Windows 8 key (for example) to prove that you purchased the OS before, and youâre just trying to upgrade to a new SSD hard drive?â  You think âI even have my Windows 8 receipts - maybe theâll just give me a complimentary Windows 10 key if I can prove that Iâm a valid customer just trying to do an upgrade.â
After waiting for another 1-2 hours, and after explaining the situation to the âAnswer Techâ again, youâll be told the same thing as before.
You were told to wait for a few days, so youâve got everything set up on your old computer running Windows 10 on a new fast SSD. Â You wonât like the idea of having to download Windows 8, installing Windows 8, requesting an upgrade for Windows 10, and then installing Windows 10 all on your new SSD just so that you can get the free upgrade.
Youâll consider paying the $200 ransom, but at this point you are too mad at Microsoft so you donât want to give them any more money for the rest of your life, and you decide to call again - maybe youâll get a better Answer Tech.
In this call, try to get a phone number to Windows directly. Â Or, whatever. Â Iâll just give it to you - Â (866) 425-8809.
#8: Answer Tech / Windows support call #3 & #4
This is an important step. Â Because you know that the odds of you getting any meaningful solutions from Microsoft are slim, you decide to double your odds. Â Sign up with the Answer Tech chat service, and call Windows at the same time. Â It may feel as if they are being intentionally irritating because theyâll probably both be ready for you at the exact same time which means youâll have to multitask.
In both the chat and the call, youâll really need to beg. Â This is after, of course, youâve been on hold for another 1-2 hours - but thatâs okay because this time you are multitasking!
Try to make the following points to the agents:
Itâs important to focus on the customer experience, because in this social media world, the customers have lots of sway in the success or failure of products. Â Failure to focus on the experience will continue to result in record losses for Microsoft.
Iâve been wrestling with this situation for probably 8-10 hours at this point. Â Please, for the love of God I am a good customer - I had a legitimate Windows 7 OS, I PAID for a Windows 8 upgrade, and you are promising Windows 10 to us for free - please just give me the Windows 10 key!
Has Microsoft considered just letting us use Windows 7 or Windows 8 keys in Windows 10 if we have genuine keys?Â
Have you read âWhat Would Google Do?â
Does Microsoft realize that they could just provide me a complimentary Windows 10 key (virtually no loss to the company) and keep me as a customer? Â Otherwise Iâll just switch to Apple products and Microsoft will miss out on FAR more than $200 from me over the rest of my lifetime?
None of this will work though. Â Both calls will fail.
#9: Choose from one of the crappy solutions and be angry
Waiting didnât work, and you still wonât want to give Microsoft another cent, so you wonât be paying the ransom.
Looks like youâll have to re-install Windows 8 and go through all of the hassle.
Go to Windows website and try to download Windows 8 so you can create a Windows 8 flash drive and boot from that so that you can install Windows 8 so that you can upgrade to Windows 10.
Actually youâll get this:
Also, the screen-grab feature wonât work so youâll have to take a crappy picture with your cellphone.
#10: Go for a walk
At this point youâve contemplated suicide and alcoholism. Â Those are two really bad things, so itâs better to just go for a walk (or start drinking, whatever).
#11: Adopt the âalways on holdâ rule
At this point you realize that you might as well call Answer Techs or Windows support and be in a state of permanent hold, because even if you donât have problems or clearly articulated concerns yet, you will by the time you eventually get off hold.
#12: Get creative
Okay, you tried waiting and that didnât work. Â You tried creating a Windows 8 thumb drive and that also didnât work. Â Itâs too bad you are such a good person - someone who pirates software wouldnât be in this situation right now.
Okay... okay... think... youâll decide to try to boot up the old hard drive (the one that was originally Windows 7 then Windows 8 then Windows 8.1) to see if there are any clues... maybe youâll make a new flash drive and try again.
#13: Get angry (even more angry)
Just kidding! Â Your start button doesnât work on that hard drive anymore, so you canât do anything! Â Why not? Â F@%& you - thatâs why.
Okay... so waiting wonât work, installing Windows 8 and playing âOS installation dominoesâ also wonât work, and your old hard driveâs OS doesnât work. Â Hereâs the silver lining - Windows 10 is working GREAT off of your new SSD hard drive - if it just wasnât for that pesky activation issue that will eventually start restarting your computer every few hours.
#14: Tech support call #5
Hopefully you paid close attention to step #9 (the âalways on holdâ rule).  If you did, you may only have 1 hour left to be on hold - but probably not!
You are waiting and waiting for someone to answer - you think âthis is the exact same number I called before right?  Why did the previous waiting music break for ads for Windows 10 and Microsoft Edge, but this has just been a solid block of music for an hour?â
You realize you MUST be on the phone with Microsoft because nobody else would leave you on hold for this long.
#15: Write a blog while you wait
Might as well do something productive right? Â Maybe you can share your experience with others so that they can benefit from the lessons you are learning.
#16: Get hung up on
After being on hold for almost two hours (again)...
...the support staff will go over the exact same things that all of the other reps went through even though you tell them that you already tried all that. Â They will be mildly sensitive to all of your time that Microsoft has wasted, and admit that they can just issue you a Windows 10 key since they can see that you have valid/genuine Windows 8 licenses.Â
(audio clip coming soon)
After admitting that they can give you a Windows 10 key (about 22 minutes into the call with them), theyâll remote into your computer and ask questions for 40 minutes.  Theyâll also laugh (perhaps at you) with their colleagues but you wonât be able to tell because theyâll be talking in their native language (which is really quite cool sounding).  You think âI could be learning another language right now on Rosetta Stone if my computer worked.â
Then theyâll just hang up on you. Â Even though they have your phone number (because the ask for it straight away) they wonât call you back - they never do.
#17: Make an appointment at the Microsoft Store
The Microsoft Storeâs website says:
Get Windows 10. Â Visit a Microsoft store near you for FREE upgrade services. Â Come into our store with your device and weâll help you get to Windows 10. Â Our Answer Desk will evaluate your device, make sure you have everything you need for an amazing experience, and take you through all of the new features of Windows 10.
Great - they will help me get it to Windows 10, and theyâll make sure I have an amazing experience! Â Well, Iâll tell you - ITâS BEEN FREAKING AMAZING SO FAR!
Great - letâs make an appointment. Â NOPE! Â The website says there is no store near you even though you have been there before. Â In fact, if you type the exact city that the store is in, it still says this:
#18: Crash the Microsoft Store
No problem - just carry your enormous CPU through the entire mall and into the Microsoft Store, all because they have not given you a new Windows 10 key. Â You might not have an appointment, but at least they canât hang up on you in person.
Here, theyâll tell you that you CAN NEVER UPGRADE YOUR SYSTEM AGAIN without having to pay for a new version of Windows 10, then tease you for not reading the entire âterms and conditionsâ agreement before attempting to upgrade to Windows 10. Â This means you CANâT ACTUALLY UPGRADE YOUR SYSTEMâS OS HARD DRIVE LIKE YOU WANTED TO.
Ask the Microsoft rep why this didnât come up at some point in the last 20 hours of customer service calls - theyâll say âactually I found about it by accident.â
Your dreams of having a fast SSD running windows 10 are crushed, so you just ask if they can just install windows 8.1 on the SSD for you.  They say âyes, for a fee.â  Naturally you canât do this because you already promised yourself that you wouldnât give Microsoft another cent for your entire life.
Ask them what they can do for free.  They say âWe can put Windows 8 back on your old hard drive - weâll just need your computer for 10 days, and weâll need your Microsoft password which will be stored in our CRM system.
Smoke will start to come out of your ears.  They will say âokay, weâll put a rush on it - weâll only need your computer for 5 days.â
Leave the store and immediately change your Microsoft password.
#19: Cut your losses
Walk from the Microsoft store to the Apple store and buy a functioning computer there. Â Then, just sell ALL of your Microsoft devices on Craigslist or eBay and buy Apple products for the rest of your life.
While in the Apple store, youâll notice that itâs much more crowded than the Microsoft store was!
#20: Watch the aftermath, and know you made the right decision
When you go to pick up your old PC machine, the Microsoft will have lost your power cord. Â If you are able to convince them that you dropped it off (even though the person checking in the computer didnât mark it down) then they MIGHT give you a replacement at no extra charge.Â
3 days after you think everything is over, youâll get your confirmation emails from the Microsoft store that your appointments have been made. Â The confirmation for the appointment that you made to get Windows 10 help will arrive on the same day as the confirmation for the appointment you had to make to pick your computer up.
This will make you laugh and roll your eyes.
Congrats - you are done!

Upgrading to Windows 10 is so easy!!!
Upgrading to Windows 10 is easy | lookarand
Over the six years since Windows 7 was launched, Microsoft has made its PC working framework much more natural and intense by pressing it with tablet-and cell phone like elements.
A great deal of those components appeared with Windows 8, however despite everything they weren't working splendidly.
Microsoft did a reversal to the planning phase with Windows 10 to build up a working framework that will be well known to Windows 7 clients however doesn't bargain on present day highlights. (Note: You're not insane - Microsoft skipped Windows 9 through and through.)
Windows 10 has a Start Menu, much the same as Windows 7 - just better.
On the left Start Menu section, you'll discover a rundown of you're most utilized applications, most went by envelopes and as of late included programming. There's likewise a catch that will demonstrate to all of you your applications in a solitary rundown.
On the right piece of the Start Menu, there is a network of application tiles that you can organize anyway you like. The "live" tiles will demonstrate to you overhauls, for example, the most recent stock costs, the last reveal to you were observing on Netflix, online networking upgrades, climate, news and games scores.
In the event that you need, you can take the Start Menu full-screen by tapping the "grow" catch - it's sort of like having a tablet or cell phone screen for a desktop. Be that as it may, urgently, it's just there on the off chance that you need it. The default is the recognizable Windows desktop experience.
Windows 10 gives some configuration changes that Windows 7 clients will welcome. For instance, taskbar symbols shine at the base when they are opened, however just the application symbol that is as of now being utilized is totally highlighted. In Windows 7, every single open application are highlighted, confusingly.
Envelope symbols are far less alluring and significantly more natural in Windows 10, making it much simpler to see the substance of the organizer initially before you open it. Gone is the befuddling and excess "libraries" index. The errand administrator is likewise much more straightforward to utilize.
Windows 7 clients ought to be unafraid of updating when Windows 10 hits store retires in the not so distant future. There is not really any expectation to absorb information, and the new fancy odds and ends alone are without a doubt worth looking at.
Superior to anything Windows 8: So imagine a scenario in which you've moved up to Windows 8. Here are the enormous contrasts you'll see in Windows 10.
Windows 8's odd tablet-style format was confounding to Windows extremists. You won't discover Windows 10 hard to utilize. Windows 10 boots straight to the desktop, and it stays there.
In the event that you have a convertible portable workstation or Windows tablet, Windows 10 has a "tablet mode" that perceives when there is no console or mouse present. Yet rather than make two different tablet and desktop interfaces like Microsoft accomplished for Windows 8, Microsoft decided to make the Windows 10 desktop and applications more finger-accommodating for tablet clients. They just transform a little to fit the gadget they're running on.
So in the event that you download a "present day" application from the Windows Store, it will keep running in a window, much the same as standard Windows programming. The main contrast is that it has a corner to corner bolt catch between the "nearby" catch and the "grow" catch at the upper right of the window. That will take the application into "tablet mode," going full-screen. In any case, you can without much of a stretch escape from that by moving the mouse to the highest point of the screen and tapping the catch once more.
Windows 8's unhelpful charms bar has been supplanted with the Windows 10 activity focus. There, you get notices and access to helpful snappy settings, for example, shine controls, flight mode, Wi-Fi and tablet mode flips.
Likewise distinctive is Windows 8's application picking component, that let you do a reversal to the last-utilized application by swiping as a part of fro the left. It has been supplanted with a significantly more valuable showcase of all your open applications on a solitary screen.
Touchscreen clients can get to the activity focus with a swipe in from the privilege, pretty much as they can see all the open applications by swiping in the from the left. In any case, leniently, Windows 10 put catches for both on the taskbar so mouse and console clients won't inadvertently dispatch those elements by putting the cursor too far to one side or right.
Window 10's New Features: Windows 10 isn't just about amending Windows 8's oversights, however. New elements Windows 8 clients will love.
The coolest new element is Cortana, Windows 10's adaptation of Siri, which seems net to the Start catch on the taskbar.
"She" has a comical inclination ("I know Siri, however I don't Have any acquaintance with her, know her, on the off chance that you get what I mean," Cortana says in light of an undeniable inquiry). Be that as it may, notwithstanding woofing voice charges and questions, the pursuit highlight is truly useful.
It will look your applications, the Windows Store, the Web and your documents to answer seek inquiries. It's a super-speedy approach to dispatch an application (simply begin writing and hit Enter when the application shows up). What's more, similar to Windows 8's extraordinary pursuit capacity, Cortana can help you get to profoundly concealed settings with a couple console strokes, helping you abstain from chasing and pecking through control board settings.
Windows 10 additionally accompanies different desktops, which is useful for tidying up a chaotic workspace.
I have been trying the sneak peak variant of Windows 10 for a couple of weeks. There are a lot of things not to like, including the way that you still can't get to every one of your settings from the "settings" application. We'll cover a greater amount of the hits and misses in a more full audit once Microsoft gets closer to discharging Windows 10.
Be that as it may, the sneak peak has demonstrated to me enough to unquestionably say that Windows 10 will be a breeze to utilize, a much needed development for both Windows 7 and Windows 8 clients, and a major hit for Microsoft.
WHAT TO DO BEFORE YOU INSTALL THE NEW WINDOWS 10
Installing windows 10 | lookarand.com
WINDOWS 10 is SET to LAUNCH on July 29. The NEW VERSION will be free for the first year for qualifying Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 clients. You can see whether you fit the bill for the free overhaul here.
Notwithstanding an enhanced plan and better usefulness, Windows 10 denote the arrival of a genuine Start catch. It likewise includes the Cortana voice partner, the new Edge Web program, Xbox amusement gushing, and the sky is the limit from there.
Before you hop right in and introduce Windows 10, you ought to take a couple of minutes and set up your PC to guarantee the redesign process goes off without a hitch. This article will manage you through the progressions of checking for redesigns, moving down your own data and making an exceptionally vital framework picture.
IS YOUR PC ABLE TO RUN IT?
The answer is in all likelihood yes. Windows 10 requires the same least equipment necessities as Windows 7. Those necessities are:
â˘Â            Processor: 1GHz CPU or more
â˘Â            RAM: 1GB (32-bit) or 2GB (64-bit)
â˘Â            Disk space: 16GB (32-bit) or 20GB (64-bit)
â˘Â            Graphics: DirectX 9-able VIDEO card with WDDM driver
You can likewise verify whether your machine is fit for running Windows 10 privilege from your desktop. You will require a PC or tablet running Windows 7 Service Pack 1 or Windows 8.1 Update. From the desktop, tap on the little Windows symbol situated at the right end of the taskbar, and select the "Check my PC" choice from the left menu.
FREE UP MORE SPACE
You will require no less than 16GB of free space to introduce Windows 10. To check the amount of free space is on your hard commute, head to Computer, right-tap the C:/drive, and select Properties. You can free up some space by tapping the Disk Cleanup catch. This more often than not won't free up enough space, so you might likewise need to uninstall programs that you no more utilize.
To uninstall a Windows 8 system, go to the Start menu (the screen with the tiles), right-tap the tile you need to evacuate, and select Uninstall. You can likewise uninstall programs through the Control Panel, which you can hunt down in Windows 8.
In Windows 7, tap the Start catch, trailed by the Control Panel, and select Uninstall a project.
MOVE DOWN YOUR INFORMATION TO THE CLOUD OR AN EXTERNAL DRIVE
In any case in the event that you are moving up to Windows 10 or not, it's generally a smart thought to go down your information. You can utilize a cloud administration, for example, OneDrive, Dropbox or Google Drive, or an outside hard commute. Just movable the individual records - reports, photographs, features, music - you might want to keep safe to the cloud or outer commute.
Windows 8 clients can likewise utilize the File History highlight to consequently go down individual records. You can figure out how to utilize the element here.
MAKE A SYSTEM IMAGE
Both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 accompany an apparatus that gives you a chance to make a framework picture (a full reinforcement of everything on your PC). Head to the Control Panel and select "Go down your PC" under the Systems and Security segment. On the left decide to make a framework picture, pick the area you need to spare it to (I picked my outside capacity drive), click Next, affirm that everything looks great, and afterward snap Start reinforcement.
Toward the end of the procedure, you will have the alternative to make a framework repair plate. This can be utilized to help you repair Windows on the off chance that you keep running into any issues. You can likewise make a USB recuperation drive, which you can figure out how to do here.
In the event that you wind up needing to restore your PC from a framework picture, you can do as such in the Control Panel. Begin by writing "recuperation" in the inquiry box, click Recovery, trailed by Advanced recuperation strategies, and select to utilize the framework picture you made before.
UPGRADE GADGET DRIVERS
At whatever point introducing another rendition of Windows, it's generally a smart thought to check that you're utilizing perfect drivers. This will help you evade strength issues that could emerge because of your PC's equipment.
Numerous equipment makers as of now have Windows 10 drivers accessible at this point. To check for drivers, head to your PC producer's bolster site. More propelled clients can get to the DXDIAG apparatus in Windows to check drivers. I additionally prescribe downloading the drivers to an outside thumbdrive, just in the event that you require them amid the installation
