The Restless lore goes into like two timelines if that makes sense? Separated into two endings, one landing up in Insomnia, the other Restless.
One where he started to be more harsh to others, due to feeling like he didn't really have an effect on anything. Still forced to bottle up emotions and stress from other forces, mainly school. Before he fully broke, and became more toxic, and really more... Distant with friends. Losing himself, he fell into becoming Insomnia through it, fully insane.
The other, the Restless path, started out the same. Becoming more harsh, didn't feel like he had an effect on anything. But his actual friends fucking CHASED him down to make him feel at least wanted there. And tell him more of the path he was falling towards, or basically Insomnia. He actually made effort to get out, and got... more thoughtful to others.
Spectre seperated Restless' thoughts from his head, into an actual person after the Restless one, where we end up now. With both things existing, and then coming together in where ever Forsaken takes place, the same being, two different people. All Insomnia can see is the person who failed him in the end. Himself.
