What is an Insert Cable?
"What in the world is an Insert Cable or Insert Snake?" is a common question we receive. Â An insert cable is a cable that takes a signal going in to a TRS plug and splits it into two TS plugs. Â When this is done, two separate signals will be carried on the split plugs. Â This is not the same as a traditional "Y" cable. Â A "Y" cable splits the same signal on to both of the split channels. Â An insert snake splits the signal into two different signals. Â The traditional "Y" cable sends the same signal down both split channels. Â There are several uses for insert cables. Â One of the main uses would be to access the send/return on a mixer insert. Â Another common application of an insert cable would be to split a stereo output carried on one TRS jack to separate right and left signals on TS connectors.
