Inscrutable Records (St. Louis, Missouri) are at it again. They usually release in batches. And while I wouldn't normally call two releases a batch, I am today.

Lo and Behold "Onward Journey" is a cassette debut from British musician Louis Harding (UK). The Bandcamp write-up made it sound like I should know him, so I searched him up on Discogs and...wow. He's credited with SIXTEEN different bands - only one of which I've heard of - Fatamorgana (we posted about their "Terra Alta" LP back in March 2019).

"Onward Journey" doesn't sound anything like that. I immediately thought of Martin Newell/Cleaners From Venus. The Bandcamp write-up also mentions Dan Treacy (Television Personalities) and Sad Lovers and Giants.

The new year has barely begun and Inscrutable Records (St. Louis, Missouri) is coming out of the gate on fire. Holy crap, there are several new releases from this new-ish label.

The post nod goes to the "Star Charms" tape compilation featuring three tracks from each of the following bands: Tracks 1-3 from Answering Machines (Chicago, Illinois), Tracks 4-6 from Good Flying Birds (Indianapolis, Indiana), and Tracks 7-9 from Soup Activists (St. Louis, Missouri).

All have a lo-fi sound, but Answering Machines fits more into the punk aesthetic, Good Flying Birds into indie pop and Soup Activists into lo-fi power pop.

Kind of weird - I was thinking about Inscrutable Records the other day, thinking of how it's been a while since they've released something, and then bam, three releases.

They're all different - Johnny Skin is the most experimental, Evinspragg is the most punk (the write up refers to it as egghead punk), and then Living Dream is the most "pop".
