That gif set of Ellen, Jo, and Cas just reminds me of how we were robbed of some amazing friendships. I thought that they had some great friendship chemistry. And my god did I need to see Bobby taking Cas under his wing like a Dad—Cas needed that so bad and really never got it. Supernatural came into my house and personally stole from me
Honestly the more you think about it the more you realise SPN was so fundamentally crippled by its inability to focus on anything but the brothers alone against the world and formulaic MOTWs. Oh sure we had Cas, and a bit of Crowley, Jack, and Mary, as POVs but like, there were so many interesting character interactions that could have happened and didn’t. It’s like... the hyperfocus on what people thought the show was, rather than what the show could be. Having said that I DO think there were interesting ideas and moments and interactions (Claire getting brought back was excellent; Rowena/Gabriel certainly... happened), just that there could have been a lot more. A lot of those characters existed only with respect to Sam and Dean, not in a real relation to each other - and that’s what the ending showed us too, that these characters served Sam and Dean. Like, just spitballing here, but character interactions that were barely there and/or absent and would have been cool to see JUST based on Cas and Jack and later season characters: Cas + Waywards, Cas + Mary, Cas + Eileen, Cas + Charlie, Cas + Amara, Jack + Waywards, Jack + Bobby, Jack + Rowena, Jack + Amara. Many more.
