so he grew up with an ex-professional fencer ( almost olympic ) for a mother, and a museum curator for a father

he was never really interested in history much, though he finds mythology fascinating ( not too knowledgeable about them though ) because there's nothing like a few angry gods fucking shit up

for fun, his family ( consisting of him, his mother, and father since he's an only child ) would traverse trails and wander in the wilderness backpacking so he's had a lot of survival training

unfortunately, when he was still a teen he began having absence seizures and didn't know it until he suffered a drop seizure and his mother witnessed it and took him to the doctor

they found out he had the markers signaling there would be more seizures in the future, so his parents, being loving and overprotective, put a stop to everything strenuous ( including school -- he was privately tutored after ).

so when he learned his tutor has epilepsy and she told him how hers was managed well, he wanted to go backpacking again but his parents refused even with the news that it could be managed so well

so, the typical teenage rebellion clicked and salem ran away from home

four days later he was found in a national park quite a ways from home but he'd had no seizures and his determination finally showed his parents that he was willing to do what it takes to get better enough

so they relented and began backpacking and sword training again ( with the added classes on survival and tips from doctors on his medicine )

flashforward to 20 year old salem who comes across the inquisitors breaking into a museum he and his parents have gone to to attend a gala and he just lets them because its fun being a rebel

on his backpacking journey a little while later, he bumps into the inquisitors when they cause a cave in in the cave he's exploring and thus is roped into helping them or else they'd all be trapped

— his mother and father met when they were middle-aged, and got woojin when they were older than most parents. it was a nice household, but they both worked a lot, so woojin did a lot of things to seek their attention. aka, getting into trouble at school, anything he could do to get more attention from them

— his mother was a pre-school teacher, and his father was a detective. when he was quite young in elementary school, his father works on a case involving a serial killer going after children. ofc, woojin has no idea but hates that both of his parents are so tense/upset. he feels like their time together is tainted in a way?

— one day, he doesn’t go home after school, throws one of his childish tantrums. nothing happens, but when he comes back home really late, his parents are both frantic, crying and doting on him in a way that feels quite foreign

— he still has no idea why, but behaves a little, doesn’t want to see them that upset ever again. months pass and one night when he comes home, there’s no one there. he waits for a long time before his aunt comes and tells him his mother passed away. his father is overcome with guilt — later woojin finds out she protected one of her students, and got hurt in the process. he feels guilty for how he behaved before too, yells and screams, but he can’t get anything out of his father.

— the man turns into a stone, barely talks. there’s a huge distance between them, and soon after high school, woojin enlists to the military for mandatory duty. he wants to get away, and he does. it’s his first time being a part of such discipline, and he finds out that he likes it, makes connections and friends. he also loves the thrill, and even though he can’t find much of it where he is, he still wants to go out and explore.

— quick after being released from the army, jeju is the last place he wants to return to. one of his connections know how good he is with weapons, and offers him a job within a smuggling ring. he works there for a few years until whispers start to reach his ear, that they will be caught soon and the police are on their trail. just then, he gets a letter from iuppiter, a job offer as a weapon specialist. with such a paycheck and the threat of being arrested on the horizon, he accepts the offer immediately.

— he works as a weapon specialist for over three years before he becomes a strategist. he’s 25 then, and it’s hard to accept he’s been an inquisitor for almost ten years now. the time passed by so quickly, woojin sometimes finds it difficult to think back. every day filled with a thrill, he loves his job, lives for it. however, there’s that burden that comes with making plans, a lot of responsibilities not to himself, but to his team too.

— when it comes to his personality, he’s stern and uptight most of the time, doesn’t tolerate messing around when there’s something to do. the rowdy child he once was is buried in the past, and after spending so much time with his father in solitude, he finds it hard to show his emotions. he usually doesn’t, thinks there’s no need to. he’s curt and direct with his words, however he cares a lot for the team. of course, there’s no need to show it clearly, but their safety is the number one priority always. even more important than what they are after, he knows inquisitors are only there because of the team, and even though he acts like a soldier, there’s little he wouldn’t do for any of them.
