so…   the current queen of hearts has been known for rly fishing for subjects. bc wonderland is so hard to get to, there’s v few inhabitants. the queen wants more, tho. she ain’t happy with such few subjects. she’d like a population large enough so she could actually have guards & ladies in waiting & an executioner who’ll walk with her at all times to murder anyone she deems fit.

she can’t do that with the current population,. so she hashes out a plan. she writes, on little slips of paper, i don’t want to live in the real world. these papers she then has the white rabbit bring to the real world & scatter about. this is in hopes that random ppl in the uk-ish area will pick up the paper & read it out loud to themselves. then, while they may not rly MEAN the words, the rabbit is still allowed to come along & whisk them away to wonderland.

ofc, this is v far-fetched & doesn’t work most of the time. ppl see the little slips & don’t read them out loud & just toss them. or, on the chance that ppl do read them out loud, most simply…   don’t agree to go w/the rabbit when he shows up. but the queen IS trying & she’s hoping that she’ll get an army soon enough.

          is it ??   he could have sworn otherwise.

          pulls out his phone to make sure----- a quick GOOGLE search confirms that it is, indeed, in public domain. it SOUNDS fake, but okay. pockets his phone & holds back several competing questions.

          an INNOCENT comment, he hopes. doesn’t fancy starting an argument. the COMPANY morris keeps is rather frightening. morris himself is frightening. 

          lena will KEEP IT A SECRET FOR NOW, won’t tell anyone about how she’s keeping a total stranger, who by the away appeared in her office all COVERED IN BLOOD AND DELIRIOUS, in her apartment because for sure she’ll get sent to a mental institution and she’d like to keep pretending she’s sane until something bigger than her blows up in her face and to visit a therapist becomes unavoidable. there’s nothing wrong in helping someone from a completely different dimension, she tells herself as she opens the door to her penthouse with hatter     an odd name that she still can’t quite get used to     right behind her. gosh she hopes no one tries to kill her or break into her apartment in the next few days because then she’ll have a lot of explaining to do.

It was growing difficult to deny that this situation was becoming uncomfortable. Yet another person staring at her, seemingly knowing her, and yet Cora could not have said whether she had even passed them once on the street.
