Ch. 3

The next morning had arrived, and everyone had showed up about an hour earlier than usual per the devil’s request. So they could start whatever he had planned for them before the casino opened. Cuphead arrived at the casino with his brother, feeling pretty ready despite the early start (and getting attacked by a monster less than 24 hours ago), with Mugman being slightly worse for wear.

They looked around the casino to find no one else there at first, until they found everyone crowded tightly in the Devil’s office. The room was abuzz with whisperes. Everyone just looked around confused… until the devil appeared in front of them… next to the lift into hell.

Leaning against it, he flipped the lever to hoist it up and simply said

‘After you guys’ with a toothy grin

He seemed to be back to his old menacing self again

After managing to pile everyone into the lift in the space of three trips (as well as helping some of the workers get over their hesitation about stepping into hell) they had all been lifted down

Lifted down into… what appeared to be an arena of some sort.

It was pretty dark, seemed almost abandoned. Cuphead looked out one of the few windows and saw a very bleak landscape outside, fairly devoid of anything living. They were all lead to a larger and much more lighted area in the center, surrounded by high and vacant bleachers.

Almost immediately after they entered, a figure emerged from the dark in front of them and commanded their attention.

Tall but significantly shorter than the devil, sporting leather from head to toe and a mauve complexion. They had a pointy beak-like face with a set of large horns coming from the top of their head, and a confident expression.

The devil spoke

‘Alright… Everyone! Meet Duke Abigor!’

The ‘duke’ responded indignantly to his introduction

‘Ahem, Great Duke Abigor of Jinnestan…’

They quickly regained composure however

The devil gave a nervous cough and continued

‘S-she’s going to be teaching you some of the-‘

She interrupted him

‘I’ll take it from here my lord’

‘basics…’ he weakly finished his sentence

‘I’m going to go… stand over there now’ the devil said and quickly shuffled off to the doorway where Dice was standing

‘Greetings mortals. You already know my name, his highness has asked me to give you a rudimentary instructional course on how to fight agianst fallen ang-‘

The devil angrily butted in. Grabbing her arm and pulling her off to the side.

She resisted saying ‘HEY WHAT ARE YOU- JUST BECAUSE YOU’RE THE KING DOESN’T MEAN I’M JUST GOING TO LET YOU MANHANDLE-‘

He whispered something to her in a harsh tone

She responded in a more audible voice ‘You never said I couldn’t tell them that!-‘

He hushed her again, but she resisted once more

Once again speaking perfectly loud she said ‘Well how am I supposed to?!-‘

The devil only gave her a stern glare, this time she seemed to cave in

‘Fine… I’ll just- ugh…’ she said and turned back towards the crowd

Attempting to perk back up into a more enthusiastic demeanor, she stood up tall and exclaimed

‘Well! Welcome to monster training!’
