“ well , that's ridiculous , ” right now , it's just the two of them . izy's face contorts in something between abject horror & relentless judgment , side - eyeing kyle from her side of the couch , a comical exaggeration of emotion . in the soft light of the tv that illuminates the dark family living room , evening news plays on low volume & she finds herself in the quiet company of her brother again , months since the last time . the distance between the two , to her , has been more than physical . enough that she closes the door to his room when she sees their mom's left it ajar — he's not there . he isn't using it . guilt twists in her stomach when she finds herself thinking that way . so when he's here , izy's company is hard to shake ; at the end of the day it's simple . she misses him . whatever she'd said before , however , is quickly discarded . brows raising , she returns her attention to the video game in her hands , “ what if i went out & killed a bunch of people ? what if i was a cannibal & wanted you to join me ? ” a gasp ! “ what if i stopped washing my hands ? ”
