Here for the sharing. Yesterday I watched Drinking Buddies with Olivia Wilde and Anna Kendrick and a bunch of awesome dudes. I was quite impressed, every scene, every reaction felt so natural and honest and real and it turned out the whole movie was improvised on spot by the actors and the crew, so there's that. There wasn't even one word in the final scene, but, damn, was it powerful and meaningful. Yes, oh, yes. I loved it. And I recommend it. Cheers. : )
Fantastic! I’ve heard great things about this film, too and it seems like it was a passion project from the director and actors. Here’s Drinking Buddies director Joe Swanberg describing the process of shooting the film:
A lot of my notes are reminding the actors that they don’t have to always talk. Silence can be very exciting on screen, especially if the camera can see an actor’s eyes. I never rehearse. We block it out for lighting, but I want to save the dialogue for when the camera is rolling. I sometimes use the first take and I don’t want to miss something great during rehearsal (via reddit).
