Hi everyone, this week in class we discussed in more detail a few things regarding pricing and promotion and how different pricing methods work for companies. Cost based, competition based, and demand based are a few pricing methods that marketers use. Of course internal and external factors are taken into consideration when deciding what pricing method to use. These pricing methods work differently given that they deal with different factors, take demand-based pricing for example which deals with the perspective of a consumer and how much they are willing to pay for a product or service. Whereas competition base is affected by the competition and marketers base their prices relative to competitors’ prices. Lastly, cost-based pricing is where marketers simply determine the cost to produce a product and then adds an additional amount to make their profit. There are then other factors to consider when pricing and this can be things such as environmental, psychological, behavioral, etc. Since everyone considers different things when buying a product, marketers need to observe all factors that affect their pricing methods and that can influence a consumer’s decision.
