Plunger have begun to think something that it thought it never would or could, think… “Have we reached blues-guitar-gunslinger-hero-thing saturation point?”
Tired old has-beens, pop-mongers and dyed-in-the-wool heritage bores have been saying it for a long time, and Plunger has pooh-poohed their pontifications as the rant of the dull, the tasteless or the not-up-to-it, but now it’s getting silly…
Seemingly not a week goes by now without another album from a hot new kid on the block (or lukewarm old kid back on the block for that matter) about which Plunger struggles to find new things to say.
Are Plunger just getting old(er) or is it all beginning to sound just a little samey? The world seems to be awash with Strat-stranglers, Tele-wranglers and Les Paul-manglers and we just can’t tell them apart any more…
... and they just keep on coming.
A great man once said “But where are the songs?” That’d be a start.
Invention, variety, originality would be three other things, that are probably a step too far.
