Study: Indigenous Employees More Satisfied When Working for Indigenous Employers
âThe study - a collaboration between the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB) and Indspire - surveyed recipients of the Indspire's Building Brighter Futures: Bursaries, Scholarships and Awards (BBF).â
âThe findings show that Indigenous employees working for Indigenous employers in Ontario report higher job satisfaction than those working with non-Indigenous employees. On average, the study shows, Indigenous people working for Indigenous employers feel more valued at work, are satisfied with their current employment, and work their desired number of hours.â
ââThey also feel that their work directly impacts Indigenous communities in a positive way,â said Samantha Morton, director of research for CCAB...âIt really doesn't come down to Indigenous grads that are working for non-Indigenous businesses, say, in high-stress areas that could lead them to have lower job satisfaction,â she said. âWhat it really comes down to is the internal processes, the culture, and the operations of the business.ââ

The Indspire Awards were established in 1993 in conjunction with the United Nationsâ International Decade of the Worldâs Indigenous Peoples, and after 24 years, 337 outstanding First Nations, Inuit, and MĂŠtis individuals have been honoured for their accomplishments. Â These positive role models demonstrate to Indigenous youth that they can achieve their dreams, too.
Hosted by multi-award nominated actress and singer/songwriter, Cheri Maracle and well-known TV personality, Kyle Nobess, the 2017 Indspire Awards were broadcast on Global TV and APTN from Ottawa, Ontario on July 1st. Â The ceremony featured Indigenous talent from across the country, including a special guest performance by musical icon, Buffy Sainte-Marie!
