no you’re so right. i have a lot of jumbled thoughts rn about everything that’s happening and i’m not eloquent enough to word them, but i will say there has been a huge pressure in general to say or do the “right” thing and it’s very frustrating and confusing when at the end of the day i personally come on here to unwind and de stress. not saying that speaking up against all of this and lifting marginalized voices up isn’t incredibly important (and i’ve been trying to reblog posts from minorities rather than drown them out with my privileged opinions) but it’s so draining seeing people yell at each other for not writing paragraphs or changing urls/still reblogging taylor content. and you’re right, it does feel a little like an echo chamber rn although that might just be who i’m following
there is Always pressure to do the “right” thing and while i think in this particular situation a lot of it is coming from the right place, so much of it unfortunately reeks of being performative and only doing it bc of other people bc . in so many other cases i’m not sure they’d react the same way to nearly identical news (sans taylor) and it’s just … a tough spot to be in when there’s active pressure from others who think others are obligated to say things and do things especially in this regard bc yes it’s real life Big Deal stuff but this is also. just tumblr. a space where so many people Just come to unwind and destress. and it constantly being an echo chamber is just . the nature of this corner and with something this polarizing it’s even worse
all this to say is that there’s no real right answer with what to do and it’s absolutely no one’s place to tell other people that what they’re doing isn’t right (re staying quiet vs speaking out out)
