Any good?

is it now? I heard it was pretty good, actually. it reminds me a lot of Final Fantasy V; It usually doesn’t take itself too seriously, and loses out on some acclaim as a result. But considering how dated it is, i’m liking the cinematic/theatrical quality of it thus far. Reminds me a little of FFVI’s opera segment, but that’s how FFIX opens up instead. Hard to compare the two beyond that, and I don’t think there’s a single Thief-type character I will ever like more than FFVI’s Locke Cole, but we’ll see.

although I should probably mention that one thing I wasn’t particularly fond of when it came to FFVII and FFVIII was how self-inserty the main characters were and how the cast of characters was very Disney/Harem anime-esque in composition. And from what I recall from FFIX’s cast, it’s not as pronounced as the aforementioned. Aside from Squall’s general unlikeability (which i personally think is mostly justified but grates on my experience all the same), I have a disconnect with characters if the story revolves around them and if I get the sense that the writer *wants* me to identify with the one character over all the others.
