Not to be a Debbie Downer or anything, but has anyone else noticed that fanfiction is kind of dying? Don't get me wrong, I love SMAUs so much, but I feel like they're slowly starting to replace what fanfiction really is. Instead of sitting down and genuinely enjoying a story, people seem to prefer SMAUs because they're shorter and easier to consume.
And again, I literally make SMAUs myself, but they take a minimal amount of effort compared to one-shots or multi-chapter fics. Yet SMAUs tend to get so much more attention than works that actually require hours and hours of writing.
Maybe it's not a huge deal, but I still feel like longer, more in-depth fics deserve more appreciation.
