Introducing…Nightwatch Incubux!
It took a long time for me to relearn how to draw and get a design for him (since yknow, I first made the written concept for him on May 1st 2025 cough cough) but he’s finally here!
He was created as a gift from The Atomized to Atrophy, and by that I mean the Atomized threw a bunch of code from the recently atomized XTale at Atrophy’s goop and it turned into a weird, teethy tumor on Atrophy’s body
When it detached, looking like a mound of goo, teeth and moss, Atrophy was terrified of this gross thing in his mansion and tried to kill it
It died,,,and then revived via Determination. And escaped.
This malformed creature proceeded to figure out survival through sheer trial and error starting at the ride-old age of zero days old. If it failed then it simply came back to life and continued.
Slinking through the gaps between aus was not hard, especially with all of the holes in many aus where the void crept in. This was good for gathering supplies.
It learned that by pretending to be a person, occasionally monsters would offer it assistance in its survival. It was taught to read and speak by a blind Underswap Asgore. The other monsters in the ruins avoided it because its bones didn’t quite fit together right, and were held in place by tentacles and moss growths, and its teeth upon teeth upon teeth’s covering its form. It carved itself a wooden mask to remedy this.
It left that au after concluding that it had more to learn elsewhere. And learning helped survival, developing skills helped complete tasks better.
It does tasks, because completing tasks results in survival. Tasks like gathering food, tools, medical textbooks, making crude braces to keep its legs and arms together, mending wounds. Talking to people is a task, it helps develop social skills. Those can be useful, people can be useful.
Drugs can also be useful. They drown out the pain of the goo eating bone and the determination melting bone and eating the goo. And the feeling of malformed organs struggling, forcing warped and weak legs to stand upright. Dulling the pain makes tasks easier, makes finding more painkillers easier. It will stretch out its supply of drugs as far as it can until it is able to find more. Any drugs will do, as long as they distract from the agony of its existence.
When it amassed too many tools to carry on its back, it made a base of operations in the ruins of a severely corrupted BigTale (by @bigtaleundertaleau ). The corruption made it easy to access other aus and caused the au itself to be barren of life. The only “person” endemic to this au was a frozen png of Big the Cat face down in the circular patch of flowers at the very beginning on the game.
I will share the tale of how Atrophy ended up capturing him and dressing him up like a little doll soon, in the meantime feel free to ask about Incubux! He end up settling on he/him pronouns once he starts trying to achieve some semblance of personhood, though that will take a little while.
Also I have been in Thaltro’s DMs and as a STEM bitch I have my own theories about how monster biology works in Nightwatch, which will come in handy for the medical catastrophe that is Bex over here. So feel free to ask about that as well
