Hiii I really want to apply to Colgate and I was wondering if you have any advice on what SAT score and GPA is needed? Also do ECs and Essays count a lot in the admissions process? Thanks!
Firstly, I'm going to apologize for the appalling amount of time that has passed since you asked this question. I'm so sorry for my extremely delayed response, and I hope that you can still find the information useful.
I'm so glad you're interested in being a Colgate Raider! I'm just a freshman, so I just want to put out there that I haven't been lectured on what admissions officers are looking for anymore than you might have been at this point in your college search. But I'll try my best!
On the SATs, my goal was around a 700 on each of the three sections. As far as GPA, I believe that the general consensus is that Colgate students are around the top 5% of their class in high school. I'd recommend a 95% or above, but you don't have to be perfect. I think the highest I ever got was somewhere around a 98%.
Extracurriculars and essays count tremendously! Colgate is really a global community, so they're looking for versatile and determined people who are well rounded and eager to learn. A variety of extracurriculars is best, but always put your effort in. Leadership positions are also a plus, being a leader in your class government, being in Honor Society, or even just being on the board for a certain club.
Essays will also set you apart from other applicants. Try and reveal as much about yourself as you can without being wordy. Admission officers read so many essays, so try and make yours unique. Unless you have something exceptional to say, don't just write about how great your grandparents were. Whatever you choose, write it well, and remember to be you!
I hope this is helpful for your applications, even those that don't go to Colgate. Good luck!
