     days where the dreams are long gone and faded , nothing but grainy film in the back of his head . they had once attempted to seek him out , but he had never once wanted to be found . 

     he’s worn so many names and faces , donned the masks of gods and deities of cultures long past , and now he wanders concrete jungles of a modern world where people walk , unbothered by time . they’ve come far from where they once revered the likes of him as a god , but he’s also grown to never reveal himself to them either . he had grown weary of the titles and sacrifices , the featureless faces that had given him riches and the lifetimes that had passed him by . 

     centuries , and he’s grown jaded . perhaps once upon a time , Poe had carried a flicker of hope somewhere in his chest . a warmth , a candle flicker that had been the gleam of something . the beginnings that would potentially bloom , but thousands of years of loneliness had snuffed it out and hardened his edges , and he had grown to not want to be found by anyone that had attempted to seek him out .

     he’s better off alone , he’s noticed . timeless and ageless , he can watch humanity destroy itself over and over again as the earth purges them and they grow again and again . he can sit back and see what happens , and watch with a very jaded heart . 

     after all , there’s no need to get attached to what doesn’t last .

     much as he sips on his coffee , fingers curling the edges of the cardboard cup and his eyes flicker between bodies that walk by , some glancing at phones and others simply too enthralled by one another . once upon a time he would have longed to have another , but there would be no other for him . no family , no love . there are no immortals that he could bare to be around , after meeting Andromache and sending her on her way . he has no interest in found family , in clinging to desperate dregs of a hope that there is something in the world to be around .

𝚃𝙷𝙴𝚁𝙴’𝚂 𝚂𝙾𝙼𝙴 𝚂𝙴𝙼𝙱𝙻𝙰𝙽𝙲𝙴 𝙾𝙵 𝙰 𝚂𝙼𝙸𝙻𝙴 𝚃𝙷𝙰𝚃 pulls onto his lips.  partially reminiscent.  but he knew he couldn’t really just stay.  not for long periods at a time at least.  he’s got a job to do, which, does require longer periods of time away.         ❝  i know, i know.  i bring the party with me.  ❞         it was mostly a joke, though he did know he did bring some sort of life to wherever he was.  as long as there was good company at least.

squatting down to take a closer look at the trail of destruction,   mulder realized he’d never seen anything like this.   and the cause of death couldn’t be determined with the state of the body other than it was brutal.   ❛  make sure to take plenty of photos  :   the spatter on the wall,   fragments down the hall they tried to clean up,   everything.  ❜   the medical office building was ransacked as though the they were looking for paperwork.   he hadn’t been able to figure out what specifically they could have been looking for due to the disarray and seeming randomness of the drawers searched through.   it was a secretive place as well . . no one here wanted to give him more details to solve the case than necessary and that was a hindrance in itself.   he stood and wandered around under the watchful eye of the facilities guards.   there was no way he would get anything done while everyone else was here.   perhaps he could break in later.
