A/N: I originally posted this for Halloween of 2020. [edited and reposted Oct. 30, 2022]

Warnings: stalking, swearing, slight mention of anxiety, a little sad and lonely at the beginning but it's just very wholesome.
Summary: In which things don’t go as you planned, but somehow ended better.
Halloween wasn’t a big festivity in your house. You were the most hyped about it every year. But it wasn’t like you actually went out partying or anything of the sorts. Your costume consisted of shorts, thigh high socks of one of your favorite Halloween films and an oversized t-shirt you stole from your brother. Your father always brought chocolates, Halloween themed cupcakes, and candy from work for you all while you watched some spooky flicks. By the end of the first movie you were left alone in the living room, everybody else leaving to do something else or just sleep, as you stood there on the couch until the early hours of the day when sleep finally took over.
This year, you wanted to change things over a little bit and decided to invite your friends to your place and throw a little party. Strict parents made it difficult for you guys to reunite normally but you thought given the occasion they’ll let them come over. It didn’t even have to be until too late; you understood they might get worried on a night like this one.
So there you stood in the hall near the front door waiting for them to arrive with your costume: you went for a fairy. You had dressed up as one when you were six years old and you thought about recreating it since you still loved those magical creatures. It consisted of a pale pink short dress with a puffy skirt, a pair of fairy wings, flowers on your long braids and some glittery makeup. And a fairy wand of course.
You waited for fifteen minutes, then half an hour, a little more than an hour. And you started to get anxious so you went to check for the millionth time if everything was in order. You knew how people tended to arrive late to things, no one really liked to be the first one to show up. So you resolved on going out to buy some more drinks and snacks and maybe by the time you were back your guests would’ve showed up.
A small frown adorned your face while you walked down the streets to the nearest convenience store, cursing at yourself for not grabbing a jacket on your way out, rubbing your arms to try and get some warmth. Feeling a little mad that they didn’t even bother to let you know if they weren’t coming, you walked with your head hung low when the anger subsided and was replaced by sadness. And suddenly your emotions shifted once again but this time to uneasiness. You didn’t know if you were being paranoid but you felt like someone was watching you since you got further away from the houses and the sidewalks with children running around trick-or-treating. Hurrying your pace and grabbing your phone, opening it to your brother’s contact number, you saw you were a few feet away from the store’s doors.
Atsumu, who happened to be there, saw the creeper who was following you and was quick to act. And when you looked to the front again you let out a gasp in fear by the sudden feeling of being engulfed in a tight hug and someone whispering to your ear a Don’t worry I saw him too, before letting go and
“FINALLY! WE’VE BEEN WAITING FOR YA!” he spoke exaggeratedly loud and you winced but hurried to play along plastering a fake smile on your face.
Wrapping his arm around your shoulders, he felt how tense you were. He addressed the man, “Oh. Good evening, sir! Do ya think if we ask him,” he pointed towards the clerk working at the cash register, “He’ll give us any candy for free?” You almost laughed at his fake - was it fake?- excitement regarding the prospect.
Feeling yourself go a little deaf, you still managed to hear someone nearby say something between the lines of “Who the fuck is Miya talking to now?” and then another one add “So damn loud all the time”. You saw how the man that had been following you stiffened and glared at who you supposed now was Miya while the latter just smiled at him.
“Don’t fuckin’ care, kid. Aren’t ya a little too old for that stuff?” He hastily made his way out of there, bumping Atsumu's shoulder harshly as he passed by. Atsumu turned to look at him go with a satisfied grin on his face, while you stared at him before finally being able to let out the laughter you’ve been holding. He turned to look at you, confused.
"What?" you kept laughing out of nerves but eventually stopped and looked up at him, your smile faltering and eyes watery. "I…" your voice wavering made you pause and you sighed before starting again "Thank you."
His gaze on you softened in understanding, "None of that, Miss Fairy." He then had to throw a very Atsumu-like comment. Forgive him, he didn't know how else could he lighten the mood. "Nice costume. What are you? Five?"
You blinked, the tears in your eyes falling even though you didn’t feel like it anymore. It was your turn to ask "What?" Then you took a moment to admire his costume.
"Aw, look at your cat ears! So adorable." you teased. You knew those weren't cat ears but you weren't about to let your stranger savior win at this.
"W-What are you talking about? Are you blind? I'm a fox." He said proudly. You ignored him and started playing with his tail, cooing, "S-stop that. You're making it weird." He stammered, his cheeks turning a light shade of pink. You smiled, a hint of mischief in your eyes replacing any trace of worry on your features. Mission accomplished.
Atsumu stared for a moment before quickly looking away, blushing harder. He cleared his throat, "Anyways, what were you thinking walking around alone at night?"
He almost regretted asking by how your smile quickly faded. You started fidgeting with your fingers. To him you looked like a child being scolded. He was very familiar with that situation.
"I wasn’t planning to."
He arched a brow, "That doesn't answer the question." Was he turning into his mother?
"What are you, my dad?" Atsumu gave you a look, and you let out a puff of air. "I was just going to buy some stuff for a party I'm hosting." Stuff you already had in abundance back at your house.
"Tonight?" he deadpanned. You nodded. Atsumu smiled and started again jokingly, "Well clearly hosting a party is not one of your fortes." You looked at him, offended. He laughed, making you do so as well. You gave in and shrugged.
"Well, yeah, it’s my first one. And since nobody showed up I think I do suck at making those." You rubbed one of your arms and chuckled halfheartedly.
Shit, “I-" he began to backtrack.
"Don't. If I'm not having a Halloween party I won't have a pity party either." You cut him off, eyes closed in slight irritation, while your cheeks and the tips of your ears turned a light pink, one hand turned into a fist around your fairy wad. He held back a snort.
"Well, Tinker Bell, who the hell wants to buy chocolates tonight when the whole deal of Halloween is to obtain candy for free?"
You glared at his nickname for you.
"Hey Miya, who's the tooth fairy?"
◇◇◇
Atsumu, which you learned was his name, was actually trick-or-treating with his friends and twin brother. After bugging the hell out of the convenience store clerk to get free candy, he convinced you to stay with them when finally, your so-called friends had called saying they couldn’t make it. And that's how you ended going house after house asking for candy. Atsumu and his friend Ginjima were the loudest of them all, and they were very serious with the trick on trick or treat. An old lady, in a very mean manner told you all she wasn't handing out candy to them cause she didn't like their costumes - she only gave some candy to you, the cheap ones though- and he deadass started an argument with her. Osamu stopped munching on some gum drops - that he stole from Atsumu's basket “ ‘cause he was saving his for later”- and grabbed him by the collar of his shirt to get him moving. After you finished your rounds around the neighborhood he insisted on heading back and got her house full of toilet paper. All of you had to run afterwards when you heard her threaten to call the police. Suna lent you his candy basket because he was busy on his phone capturing Atsumu's dismay. Also he kept calling you tooth fairy to annoy you and how you shouldn't support Halloween because it worked against your job. You really stumbled upon a teasing bunch of little shits.
You all stopped once you reached a considerable distance, airy laughs filling the air around while you struggled to catch your breaths.
"My stomach hurts", Osamu let out between laughs as he winced.
"Can you tell if it's for all the stolen candy you've eaten or for running?" Suna quipped, glancing at Atsumu.
Atsumu glanced back and then back at his brother, "What do you mean-
"You snitch-" "YoU BASTARD"
The three of you watching bursted out laughing.
◇◇
After getting the twins out of each others' throats and lending your candy pile to Atsumu, they all decided to walk you home. It was pretty late by then, the streets now almost free of parents walking their children in their bright costumes and masks towards people's front doors to get some Halloween sweets.
"Um… You guys wanna come in?" you offered when you reached your house. They looked at each other and you all walked inside and settled on your living room. You got them drinks and some snacks while you left them to make a pillow fort to watch Halloween films. Your mom looked at the boys she didn't know as your friends in her living room and you introduced them to her, all the bunch of them innocent smiley faces. You held back a laugh. She scolded you for leaving alone earlier and all of them chimed in agreeing with your mother and just like that they won her over.
Your plans of having an out of the ordinary Halloween didn't go just as you wanted, but looking around at Atsumu getting startled by the jumpscare as you also did, Gin almost making the bowl of popcorn fly out of his lap, Osamu mocking his brother and Suna somehow managing to fall asleep at some point through all of it, you thought that this was better.
