Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-IN-05) is one of a dwindling number of Republican House members to hold town hall meetings with constituents. The one she held on Friday in a suburb of Indianapolis went about as you would expect.
Less daring than Rep. Spartz is Rep. John James (R-MI-10). Like most House Republicans, Rep. James is hiding from his constituents. So Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) and Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-FL-10) are holding a town hall in Michigan's 10th so that James's constituents will be able to voice their concerns to elected officials in the federal government.

Murphy and Frost are intelligent and energetic speakers. They are worth catching in Warren, Michigan on Saturday if you live in the area.

Some suspected the move had something to do with Rep. Victoria Spartz not getting a coveted post on the House Ways and Means Committee.
While House Republicans all publicly display fealty to Donald Trump to some degree, the situation just beneath the surface is more complex.
Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-IN-05) will still be a GOP House member, but she is taking the radical step of refusing committee assignments and boycotting House Republican Caucus meetings.
Rep. Victoria Spartz announced Monday that she is opting out from serving on committees next year and will boycott the House GOP conference meetings, a rare move given she also stated her intention to remain a Republican.
“I will stay as a registered Republican but will not sit on committees or participate in the caucus until I see that Republican leadership in Congress is governing. I do not need to be involved in circuses,” Spartz wrote on X.
The decision to step down confused some Republicans, but others suspected the move had something to do with the House GOP Steering Committee not giving her a coveted post on the House Ways and Means Committee, according to two people with direct knowledge of the matter.
With Republicans down to a 5-seat majority in the House, every member who deviates from strict adherence to the caucus is a new headache for the GOP leadership.
A House Speaker needs 218 votes to get elected. Several Republican House members have already said they would not vote for Mike Johnson. In early January, the House will be quite a spectacle.
Several months late, the aid package for Ukraine passed in the House of Representatives. All voting Democrats voted YEA while a majority of Republicans voted NAY.

The most unseemly vote came from Victoria Spartz (R-IN-05). She is the only House member born in Ukraine yet she voted against saving her native land from genocidal Russian invaders. She is trying to out-MAGA a primary opponent by showing GOP voters in Indiana's 5th district how irrationally pro-Trump she is. She's an example of how many Republicans office holders have put pleasing Trump ahead of personal beliefs and morality.
This vote is clearly a loss for Donald Trump and is a bigger loss for his boss Vladimir Putin.
HR 8035 now heads back to the Senate to reconcile minor differences and should be approved Tuesday. President Biden will expeditiously sign it into law and aid can then immediately flow to Ukraine.
