Track 8: Impossible
Impossible - Chapter Two

I sat outside the kitchen during my break trying to relax before my hardest part of the day. Hopefully I will be able to get through this without any problems. I wish my boss, Craig, would have picked someone else to do this but I knew why he picked me. He had a huge crush on me since my first day here. I didn’t bother me, he was harmless. We were friends until he decided to ask me out. I politely declined, saying I didn’t want to ruin our friendship. We’ve had nothing but weird and awkward interactions since then. I tried to reconcile but I know he just feels rejected. I can't believe he hasn’t gotten over it but what else can I expect. He’s a man and that’s how they are.
I got so caught up in thinking about things that my boss has done to me over the years in trying to get back at me for rejecting him that, I didn't even notice my co-worker/best friend, Riley, sit down next to me.
Riley has been my co-worker for four years and we've been friends since the minute she walked in. I've been here for six years so, I was put in charge of training her. We just clicked and have been friends ever since. When we are hanging out together, people think we are sisters because they think we look so much alike and we are always laughing. We just understand each other.
She shook me out of my thoughts by waving her hand in my face.
"Whoa Y/n, what are you thinking about?" Riley asked.
"Oh hey, I wasn't really thinking about anything, just about what I have to do after my break. Craig assigned me to special server duty."
She looked at me with a look that described the disgust I was feeling inside.
"Uh, he's such an ass. He always does that kinda stuff to you."
She sees the way he treats me differently than the other workers.
"I know, but there's nothing I can do about it. You know how much I need this job." We both knew that I’m stuck at this place.
"There has to be something you can do. He knows that you think you can't go anywhere else; that's why he uses you like that. You have to stand up to him." She's been saying this to me for years.
"I know I should, but I can't. I really do need this job and I can't get myself in trouble, or even worse, fired. I would be totally screwed."
She sighed, "I know."
We talked for a few more minutes until it was time for us to start the next service. She went straight to the kitchen, while I headed straight to the small dinning hall.
This room is meant for smaller parties. Craig told me that there was going to be less than 20 people at this dinner.
I reached the door and paused before I walked in. I made sure my apron was straight and pushed some stray hairs behind my ear. All I could do now was take a deep breath and walk in. I smiled my biggest smile, it also just so happens to be my fakest smile.
I could see mainly men sitting at a long table. They were all talking and laughing. I made my way to the head of the table.
As I reached the table, they all kind of quieted down.
I looked around quickly at everyone and then began my little speech, "Good evening, my name is Y/n. I will be your personal server tonight. If you need anything at all, I will be here all night and would be happy to serve you. To start off, I will take drink orders and please let me know how to address you." I smiled through out my entire speech. I had to let them know to tell me their name so that I could address them as Mr. or Mrs blah blah blah....
I went through the group of people sitting there one by one, and so far they weren't too bad.
The first was a man who looked oriental. He ordered a water with lemon. He told me to call him Osric. Next was a guy who had short dark blonde hair and he ordered an iced tea. He said to call him Jensen. Next was a blonde girl whose order was annoying but I smiled anyway. She wanted water with lemon juice and lime juice squeezed in, she didn't want the lemon and lime floating around in her drink and she only wanted three ice cubes. And she told me to use her last name and call her Miss Newton. Ridiculous or what? The next was a man with long brown hair. He looked up at me and had this sideways looking smile. All I wanted to do was smack that smile right off of his face, but I just smiled instead.
"What can I get for you, Sir?" I said trying to get him to hurry up.
"Well, I would like if you could get me a nice strawberry frappuccino from Starbucks." He smiled like he was so pleased with himself. I, on the other hand, was loosing any patience I had.
He actually looked like he was serious.
"I'm sorry sir, I can not get you specifically a drink from Starbucks but we do have a delicious strawberry milkshake, if you would like to have that instead." I suggested hoping he'd settle for that and move on.
He scrunched up his nose.
"What I would like is a frappe from Starbucks, but if I have to settle then I guess I will have to take the milkshake." everyone at the table was giggling during his whole rant.
"Ok, sir I can get that for you." I said moving to the next person.
"Wait, you didn't ask me what my name was." He stopped me from moving on.
I forgot to ask, well for one, because I really don't care what his name is, and two because he was so annoying I just wanted to get away from him. But I knew I had to apologize and pretend like I was sorry.
"Oh, I am so sorry sir, what is your name?" I asked trying to hide my disgust.
He laughed to himself.
"I would like you to call me Sire Jared." He was acting like he deserved to be treated like the pope.
I couldn't hold back any longer.
"Sire?! You want me to call you Sire?" I said not hiding my obvious frustration.
He looked at me like I had just ran over his pet.
"Of course I do, and I want to see your manager to report your obvious lack of true service." he said as he hit his fist against the table.
This guy can't be serious.
I refrained from saying anything other than, "Ok, I will finish taking the rest of the drink orders and then I will go get my manager for you." I just wanted him to shut up.
He stood up. "No! Go get him now!" He raised his voice. Now no one in his group was laughing. They were all either looking at him with their jaws on the floor, or they were quietly asking him to sit back down and stop his whole charade.
I started to walk towards the door to go get my boss, but just as I opened the door, someone yelled, "Wait!"
I turned around to see what else he wanted.
"I was just kidding, about all of it, I don't want you to go get your manager. I just want a water and you can call me Jared." he said with a smile.
Then he walked back to his seat and sat down.
I took one more deep breath to try to control myself from chasing after him and choking him but I walked back to the table and completely ignored him instead.
The next order was from a woman with short dark hair and she wanted a water and told me to call her Kim.
After that was another guy with short dark hair.
He ordered a diet coke and told me to call him Misha. He stopped me before I walked away,
"Oh, and I'm sorry about Jared. He was just trying to be funny, but he got really carried away." He said smiling sweetly. I just smiled and nodded as I moved down the line.
I got all of the orders and made my way to the kitchen to get all of the drinks.
‘This is going to be a long night’ I thought as I started squeezing lemons and limes in Miss Newton's drink.
