Hey folks, today I bring a rather serious discussion that I need to have with you all regarding my work, such as my Tawog fanfics and fanart. Specifically, how people use them.
Listen, I love the fanart I get, and I love seeing all the wonderful creative fanfics you guys make for my stories, but recently I feel I have to set boundaries after a certain AU that’s caught my attention.
For context, tobiisabunny on DeviantArt has made this “Waves Of Woe” story based on my fanfic Flames of Fury. I told him he was NOT allowed to write that story, because I’ve seen his past of sexualizing female characters, yet he went along and made it anyway. And it gets worse.
Not only did he go against my wishes, but he completely ignored the original story’s intent. It’s essentially just an excuse to ship Gumball and Clare together with FOF in the background. It seems that my story is not understood, so let me spell it out.
Gumball in Flames of Fury IS NOT ready for dating. In the story he is still grieving his girlfriend, and is traumatized by the events he’s been through. Mentally, he’s still twelve, so it’s kinda screwed up to ignore all that for the sake of shipping. Not only that, but Clare in the story HATES HIS GUTS. Wants him dead. There is no way she would EVER want to date him.
He does not drink. He is still mentally twelve because of trauma, and 19 mind you. He does NOT hate Anais, and Anais does NOT hate him. The point of Anais’s arc in that story was showing how she was thinking logically, while Gumball thought emotionally. She was almost hurt by him, and resents that he’s trying to make things better when she knows that nothing is going to fix what he’s done. It’s when reality slaps her (literally), she realizes her error, that her brother was still very much hurting and trying to make his pain go away, a scared lonely child wanting nothing more than to return to the life he once knew. Gumball NEVER hated Anais for being upset at him, only lashing out when he was at his wits’ end, after being literally blamed for Tobias’s death and everyone being scared of him.
Inferno is NOT a normal cat. Inferno is a part of Gumball that resembles him as it’s obviously the embodiment of everything Gumball’s ever faced, his inner demons if you will. The whole point of Inferno is that he was a shield for Gumball, that he protected him and lashed out on those who hurt him, even if it was wrong. Gumball resents him for a long time, feeling as if Inferno is nothing more than a monster, the thing he doesn’t want to be, until he finally learns what he truly is.
Let me reiterate. I love seeing what you guys do, bringing different ideas and creations onto my own, it’s lovely. However, I cannot tolerate my work being used like this against my wishes. I cannot tolerate my work being shredded to pieces and being used this way.
Please respect my boundaries, and PLEASE respect my work. Do NOT ignore when I say no, and please do not use my work in harmful ways. I know that obviously Gumball is not a real person, but it still hurts when I see the character arcs and emotional journeys I give him practically ruined and mutated. It hurts seeing something I took time on be used like this.
So in the future, for everyone, PLEASE be respectful of my boundaries. Thank you for reading.

hey, tumblr @staff , if you don't revert my dashboard back the way it was like two weeks ago [i.e - NOT LOOKING LIKE FUCKING TWITTER OH MY GOD. PUT THE HOME AND MESSAGES AND EVERYTHING BACK IN THE TOP RIGHT WHERE ITS SUPPOSED TO BE AND I KNOW WHERE IT IS AND I WANT TO CLICK] I'm just not going to use tumblr on the website. at all. my use of tumblr will severely decline. you were good the way you were before. at least mobile is still the same [For now...] Trying to blatantly copy the layouts and decisions of other companies and social media sites [which are burning to the ground *because of those decisions*] will not make you more popular or retentive to new users or old ones. You will only push away anybody who creates content and has used your site for a long time. I've seen some of my friends switch to tumblr recently and they are not using it because it feels like twitter, or because it feels like reddit, but because the content they want is right there, accessible, and not hard to get to. they have supreme control over what they see and no algorithm tries to lead them to other stuff. for this reason, one of my friends has literally described tumblr as "Reddit, but more wholesome" - based on the fact that reddit kept leading them towards content they hated and made them feel upset. Don't try to become reddit. Or twitter. Or facebook. You're tumblr, and that's all you need to be.
At the very VERY VERY least, let us have an option to opt-out of future UI layout changes. OR give *NEW USERS* the OPTION to customize the UI layout when they join, if they want it to resemble twitter or reddit or anything else.
