Established on December 2, 1970 through President Nixon's executive order, the EPA was formed to consolidate a variety of federal research, monitoring, standard-setting, and enforcement activities to ensure environmental protection. Since the initial opening, the EPA has been advocating for a cleaner, healthier environment for the American population. 

The EPA now works to ensure that all Americans are protected from significant risks to human health and the environment in which they live. Rules and regulations they enforce are based on laws passed by Congress.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) was created in 1946 through a merger of the General Land Office and the U.S. Grazing Service. 200 years later, the BLM is in charge of managing a wide variety of resources that covers 245 million acres in public lands and 700 million in subsurface mineral estate. Included in the public resources are timber, forestry, energy, minerals, wild animal herds, and sea life. 

The agency's mission was set forth in the Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976, mandating them to manage all public land resources for a plethora of uses. Such uses include energy development, livestock grazing, and recreation. 

The Bureau of Land Management are currently focusing on the following priorities:
