With blue scrubs clinging to her skin in the city’s spring warmth after a long day at work, Elise made her way down the sidewalk with the neon lights and bright street lamps illuminating her path. It was fairly busy; cars lined the sides of the wide roads and found themselves packed tightly together every time a light went red. This was one of the main reasons she refused to drive, or to take a taxi - it took much longer than it needed to. The subway was out of the question, too. The only reason for that, though, was that it creeped her out.
She passed by the same newspaper stand that she passed by every day, paid the same young man the same amount of money as always, and glanced down at the front page as she mozied on. People did tend to avoid those who weren’t being attentive, and so far that theory held up more often than not.
The headline read; Armed Robbery Attempted by Local San J— oof. Elise felt her body smack into that of a stranger’s, and she looked up with an apologetic expression. Apparently, her previously mentioned theory had its flaws. “Gosh, I’m so sorry! I wasn’t looking, and people normally just navigate around me when I’m not paying attention, which I really should have been doing, but— Never mind, I’m rambling.” Rambling was certainly the appropriate word for it. “Just… Sorry.”
"Fuck, I have such a rough day. Please tell me that your day went better than mine."
