I FELT REALLY BAD FOR IMPINGTON!

I don't have too much lore about him and I don't see too many headcanons about him to sway my opinion but based on period dramas I watch that mix the lives of the upstairs and downstairs...

Okay so two-fold; being the butler for a royal family among the Imps must still be a statement of higher class even among imps. This mirroring a lot of the staff/servants in the Edwardian Era. You can boast to others of your kind and status and being like, "Oh me? I work for (insert high powerful family here)" and it's a huge deal.

More so in the later episodes of the season we see more of the class consciousness happening, so even though Impington might HATE having to deal with Stella and her brother without Stolas being around to somewhat temper/balance his need to be around her (because even if she saw him as this weak thing, Stolas' family home and his title made him the Man of the Household), he's dedicated his whole career life and life as a butler is very demanding because they basically make sure the rest of the staff is doing their job and duty and making the house run perfectly.

Class consciousness for the imps is happening but it's slow and at the time you have to weigh the dangers of freedom...it's hard giving up comforts and security. Even if Stella and her brother are horrid to tend to...the position is still high in status for an imp. Giving it up means a lot of uncertainty and potentially if he cares for others of the staff there he could be making it more hostile and worse for them.

Now on another hand, the personalization and pseudo bonds. In another ask I mentioned I learned about social titles and ranking because of Downton Abbey and they have examples of relationships between the upper class and their members of Staff. They serve the royal family and know them in their most intimate ways. They have dressed them, know what their favorite food is and how it's prepared, they're ignored because of status and yet the closest Stolas or Via maye have to getting attention but the class divide is still there.

Personally...I think Impington knows that he lucked out with who Stolas was. He was powerful and with a title, but sweet and kind and could have done so much if he'd have a love match. Compared to serving other Sins or Royals, serving Stolas was the better outcome, even with the balance needed to also serve Stella.

And helping take care of Via. Because I love Stolas, but if he's like other Princes and even if he was more loving and attentive...royals left the raisings and caring of their children to nannies and governesses. I do think Stolas excused regal duties to spend more time with Via, but staff and Impington probably had more hands on duties ...and those duties bond.
