Been sleeping on southeast Asian horror films. Watched May the Devil Take You a few days ago and just watched The Medium. Starting impetigore, and Satan's Slaves and Roh are next.
Give your best pitch for watching an Indonesian folk horror movie to someone who is not familiar with the genre.
Okay so Indonesian Folk Horror movies... I recommend Impetigore
So this movie is fucking amazing, and it gripped me from start to finish. I could describe it but it would just sound insane. Just trust me, if you like folk horror, even if it's usually just European folk horror, try this one out. It's a great gateway film for getting into other cultures' folk horror stories, and you don't need to know a lot about Indonesian politics or social issues (at all, there are themes there but you aren't missing anything if you don't get them). It's not the only Indonesian horror movie I've seen (I'm by NO MEANS any kind of expert on them) but it was the first one I watched and got me interested in looking up more horror from Indonesia.
A warning though, it's graphic and there's a LOT of child/infant death in it.
