   Why, of all possible beings, did it have to be him that Sesshomaru would run into while letting Rin ride A-Un in search of flowers. ( She said something about making a flower crown. ) Golden irises would sharpen in mild irritation the moment Inuyasha opened his mouth to accuse ask him what he was doing there.

Imagine inuyasha and kagome are getting ready to take the first bite of of their cake and like kagome ready for it to be all cute and romantic and she turns to feed him a piece but he’s already got his claws all up in the cake and he’s got a mouth full and he looks at kagome like ‘what’

sango grunts with effort as she yanks her weapon from the hide of the colossal ogre demon, breaths still coming in harsh pants from the effort of battle. she would be lying if she said she didn't feel invigorated, every inch of her body thrumming with strength. the two of them had made relatively quick work of the demon, & more than that - it had been fun. an opportunity for both of them to launch into a fight, confident in their abilities & that they would come out unscathed, & simply experience the underrated synergy of a two-person team.

so he noticed.

of course he waited until everyone else was deep in the arms of sleep themselves before confronting her. sango’s jaw clicks, tense under the strain of her own frustration. the lack of rest has begun to take its toll on her body, her mind. even though exhaustion has left her bones heavy, her thoughts are too wild & untamed to find any peace in. it’s been three days since she’d last seen kohaku. three nights since she last truly slept. the emptiness of his gaze, the blood on his hands, soaking into the fabric of his uniform. it haunts her still. 

every time she closes her eyes, she sees a myriad of images flickering behind them, too fast to single out but always showing her him. kohaku, playing with kirara in the space behind their home. kohaku, smiling after completing a training exercise. kohaku, throwing his weapon at their clansmen, their friends, their father. kohaku, broken, sobbing, reaching to her for comfort. kohaku, remorseless, standing amongst the carnage of a slaughter at his own hand. 

maybe it would have been better if she’d stayed beneath the dirt, after that day. 

❝ how long has it been since last night ? ❞ she asks, rhetorically, biting. the lie tastes like unripened berries between her teeth, sour & too hard to chew through. in the center of their campsite, the fire’s glow is waning. ❝ i just have a lot on my mind, that’s all. ❞

& she tells herself she’s content to leave it at that. that inuyasha is content to leave it at that. but he’s never been that easy to evade. stupid, stubborn hanyou.
