Snow White: Do you consider yourself pretty? "Well, I’m not like a lot of them girls you see on TV or in magazines, but I think I look pretty good." Dani takes a moment to inspect her hands and the small scratches on them. "I don’t look like much when I’m in the field, but when I get real dressed up for something formal, I clean up pretty well. I mean, before Mort gives me kisses, anyway."

Cinderella: Do you have a curfew? "Actually, no. Back home, a lot of people were surprised by that, but I think Mama and Papa Nido figured I didn’t have a social life or much reason to be out, so I never really needed one."((In other words, Dani had few friends.))

Godfather Death: What qualities do you think make a good parent? "Good parents defend their kid’s actions when they think they’re in the right. Back when I was in elementary school, there was a kid named Bobby-Joe that used to give me all sorts of trouble. Papa Nido always gave me some good advice for how to deal with him—mostly it involved slipping nido-poop into his backpack—but one time, I caught Bobby-Joe trying to copy off my answers on a quiz. So I started to write some of the things I heard my Papa and Mama Nido talking about that morning, and he copied me. I thought it was pretty funny, but my teacher didn’t.

"She called my Papa in for a conference and started to scold me. I guess some of the things I heard my Mama and Papa talk about weren’t exactly appropriate for children. Well, Papa Nido wasn’t having any of her unfriendliness and he told her the things I wrote were things he gave me permission to say. She went off about how children shouldn’t be hearing ‘bout ‘You know that one face you make right before I’m gonna do somethin’ real sexy? You’re makin’ that right now an’ it’s turnin’ me on' and 'I’m sick of these fuckin’ politicians screwin’ me over with their bullshit taxes. If I wanted to waste money, I’d start a college fund for the girls’. In my defense, I didn’t know what I was writing. I’d heard Papa Nido rant about it before a couple of times. But at least he had my back.
