If you could help with anything at all, thank you! If not, still, I appreciate the effort. I apologize beforehand for some of the world stumbles, I attempted to do all this in one take, ahaha.
Okay, so I've listened to it, tossed it around in my head a bit, and have come to a conclusion.
For starters, thank you for having a high-quality mic, or are at least recording in a room designed for voice work. The only other noise I can hear in the recording sounds like the faint hum from your computer or distant fan. It's good to see you take pride in the quality that should be going into the basics of fan voice acting, which many, many people lack.
I rather like the emphasis you put into the statements where he's sticking it to the other characters; everything's coming up Caliborn and he loves rubbing it in others' faces. A lot of that same emphasis goes into his cursing, which is fitting since he's such a petulant brat most of the time and likes to act like a big shot, so putting more force behind choice words seems right up his alley.
The rasp in his voice is something that it seems you excel at. Many others attempt it, few succeed, and it's good to hear that you're bringing home the complete package with this character. It adds the obvious sinister overtones he's supposed to have, but moreover it adds a certain snake-like quality to his voice. I feel like, with what we know from the current pages of the comic, there really isn't a reason to not give him more snake-like aspects. Out of curiosity, was this your headcanon voice prior to us finding out about the Cherubs' true form?
That aside, I feel like there's one thing that I was, at first, enticed to hear, but eventually that same thing turned into a kind of out-of-place moment in your reading: the laugh. The first laughing fit Caliborn had sounded pretty good, but during the other bits where he laughed, it sounded rather awkward and inconsistent. I could attribute this to you doing the whole clip in one take, but I feel like that same emphasis you put into his cursing and the first bout of laughter should stay consistent throughout.
It might have also been the case that you were just going by the dialogue verbatim, but I feel like the thing that makes a good actor/VA is a bit of improvisation. Really make us FEEL that laughter, make it LOUD and BOISTEROUS (within reason; don't want the quality of the recording to drop), make us cringe at how sinister Caliborn makes himself out to be.
There, all done! Hopefully this is what you were looking for. I really rather liked your rendition of Caliborn, and I would not mind seeing you in our submissions for more VA critique.
