Artist review ============ Many maaaany months ago, almost a year since it was May 2016, I got in touch with IMDSound here on tumblr to commission a piece of artwork I wanted drawn of my character in FFXIV.
I provided a lot of screenshots of the said character, a lot of other relevant images, described the pose I wanted and most importantly - Tiger stripes.
The first image I got, I asked to reduce the breast size since I’m not a breast-type person very much, and also described and showed some more pictures of the backside of Tiger ears and how I’d perceive it to look and all that stuff.
The end result was phenomenal. I am very satisfied with the end product, though I do have a minor issue with it that wasn’t as apparent at first but became more so over time, and that’s the nose which still looks too sharp, along with the face itself having some very sharp features while the character herself is more rounded as you can see on the screenshot. The detail on the Ninjato is exceptionally good, as is the hips that I just can’t stop staring at. The showing of the skin on that specific part ( I asked to have it like Ibuki would and showed pictures of her ) titillates my imagination completely. It’s Faaaan-tastic!
IMDSound is a extremely friendly and cooperative person, listens very very well to the wishes one may have with their specific art and is always willing to change or add things. A very easy person to communicate with.
I highly recommend this one and do without a doubt consider IMDSound again for possible fanart of my Elezen, but I’d like to see other artists as well for that. This was the first piece of art I ever commissioned an artist to draw for me, and I am very satisfied with it.
You can find IMDSound’s tumble here.
Hey there! I really like your improvement and lately I can tell that you've been coming on to a style of your own, especially with your lighting usage and I think it's great. I'm an artist as well but recently I've been feeling stagnant and stuck. Any tips on what you do when you feel like you're lacking progress? How frequently/how long do you draw? Also, I noticed you're a gamer (checked out your Steam link). How do you effectively balance gaming and art? I'm so bad at that.
Thank you!
I think one important thing is…to not get too caught up in worrying about progress. Consistent practice is key when improving, and as much as people want to see results as soon as possible, it’s just not something that happens in a short timeframe. When I feel stuck with art/my skill level, which happens more often than I’d like to admit (more so during the semester since I also have to produce a lot of work for school), I usually try to work on things I would enjoy (i.e. fan art or simple studies in my sketchbook). Improvement comes with time and practice, so my advice is to keep practicing consistently. Know your limits and what you are not the best at; and if you know what you need to improve, then that’s always something to focus on when practicing!
In terms of how often…I try to draw every day, and usually will. I won’t necessarily always have something to upload/share, but even on days that I don’t upload I’ve usually drawn something on my own/for personal purposes. And in terms of length of time I draw each day, I don’t really allocate a specific amount of time since it depends on what I decide to work on that day, but an average of 4~ hours is usually how much time I spend drawing overall every day (though there are definitely some days in the week where I only get in a single hour or less; after all, what happens during the day can be unpredictable!) It’s different for everyone, though!
I do play a lot of games, haha. I also play on a few different platforms in addition to PC. I don’t really consciously try to balance my game time, but I never feel like my day is complete until I’ve drawn something…either way, if I have a free day to stay at home and draw and play games, the time split might be 50:50 between drawing and gaming, or if I’m busy during the day I might prioritize drawing, and play games after if I’ve managed to get something productive done. That being said however…because of the amount of drawing I ideally like to get done each day, it’s easy to feel burned out, and the worst thing is when it gets to a point where you are no longer enjoying it/it becomes a chore. So if it ever feels like it’s getting to that point, playing games is a good way to decompress (well, for most people anyway). And it’s also something that’s vastly different for everyone!
I hope that helps somewhat!
