Iman Mohamed Abdulmajid was born July 25th, 1955 in Mogadishu, Somalia. Iman is a well known model, actress, and entrepreneur. She attended a high profile boarding school in Egypt and as a result is fluent in five languages: Somali, Arabic, French, Italian, and English. Following political unrest in Somalia, she and her family left the country and began a new life in Nairobi, Kenya in 1973. Two years later, whilst studying political science at the University of Nairobi, Iman was “discovered” by American photographer Peter Beard. She agreed to move to America with Beard in order to pursue modeling. In New York City, Iman would launch her extremely successful career.  She would become a high profile supermodel for nearly two decades. In 1994, she launched IMAN Cosmetics, a makeup company which is dedicated to catering to women of color. Currently, IMAN Cosmetics is a $25 million industry. Iman has appeared in several high profile television shows and films in addition to her already impressive resume. In 1992, she married rock legend David Bowie and would remain his spouse until his death in 2016. Iman has two children: Zulekha Haywood, a product of her marriage to basketball legend Spencer Haywood, and Alexandria Zahra Jones, her only child with Bowie. Currently she resides in both Manhattan and London with her family, continuing her business.
