Epigram: 'Easy on the Eyes' (a few of my favorite things)
A Greek man, naked, throwing a discus The panting tongue of a scarlet hibiscus A porch-light meeting of moth A.A.– whirring tales of drunken paths, and of the nights they’ve lost their way –Sarah Torribio <<last post >>next post See more epigrams by Sarah Torribio HERE
My current favorite poet is William Carlos Williams
Imagism is a literary movement that happened in the early 20th century surrounding poetry that favored free verse and classical values in their writing. They used clear, sharp, simple words to create concreate descriptive visual images. These poems are usually short, and they immediately play like a movie in your head. The imagist poets decided they wanted to write something that wasn't Romanticism or Victorian, they wanted to bring back classical values into their writing. Most of the famous Imagist taught in school is Ezra Pound, H. D. (Hilda Doolittle), and William Carlos Williams. Imagism aimed to express emotions and ideas through precise images of ideas or concepts, really anything they wanted to write about. One of my favorite poems by Imagist William Carlos Williams is "This is just to say."
I have eaten the plums
That were in
The icebox
And which
You were probably
Saving
For breakfast
Forgive me
They were delicious
So sweet
And so cold
This poem immediately puts an image of eating plums and feeling sorry but not too much because they were so good. Pretty simple but still you can see the image and feeling so clearly. This is an example of Imagism poems that are very simple and give a clear concreate image of what’s happening. Even with the clarity there is still some poems, like some writing, which is not so simple to understand. With writing amongst many arts, it’s all about interpretation but I believe that imagism makes that much easier to understand a mental image of whatever feeling or idea they're trying to convey.

"And the days are not full enough
And the nights are not full enough
And life slips by like a field mouse
Not shaking the grass."
-Ezra Pound
Sample: first digital art/poetry combination I created
My graphics skills weren't what they've since become, but I still like some of the images the words bring up in the whispering wobbles of my inner quirk ... ;)
