Hi! My name is Paige. I have this account from when I was 16 and honestly just use it to dig around tumblr and don't post much. So I look totally inactive. But I just want to say that I recently finished The West Wing (omg I love it so much) and was desperate for fanfiction. Since it is an older show I knew stories written for it twenty years ago wouldn't be on the typical sites we use now. The stories that would have been lost in the deep dark web are still able to be found and told. There are a few broken links but overall you have done an amazing job and I don't want you to think it is a job that has gone unnoticed or unappreciated. Nice to meet you, and I’m so happy that the JDFF archive has been valuable to you! For such an old fandom, The West Wing has surprisingly good representation on AO3 and Fanfiction.net, especially since The National Library got ported onto AO3, so they’re definitely both worth a look. There are still hundreds of stories, though, that never made it onto either, and that’s what the archive is for! I also have a document I created for my own convenience but that might be fun to explore, of all the old Wayback Machine-preserved fanfic sites from back in the day. You can find it here.
As far as helping, the best thing you can do as a reader is to help add short summaries to stories as you read them, and please do let me know about any broken links! If you find a broken link, it would be very helpful to draw attention to it on the page (turn it bold and red or something like that) and drop me a line to let me know. The size of the archive is such that I have to move very quickly to get anything done in the time that I have available. I’m usually going as fast as possible and I don’t have much time to check links, let alone read the stories I’m archiving. People going through and reading and making the archive better is incredibly helpful, and it also makes me happy to know that folks are using it! Thanks for getting in touch! :)
