Hi! I was wondering whether you had any theories about how conscious the mindless titans still are? Like Connie's mother still recognized her son and that one titan recognized Ilse as Ymir... but still bit her head off. Do you think they have some urge to eat people which is very hard to control? And that's why Ilse's titan almost tore its own face off before killling her?

According to Ymir, all mindless titans have some level of consciousness. I really liked @kyojinofbraveos suggestion that all titans have the ability to behave abnormally when something important from their past triggers their emotional center, allowing them to partially awaken from “the nightmare” they are trapped in. Ultimately though, the urge to consume wins out.
