I think their relationship would be so deliciously complex. Thornton seems like a hopeless romantic, and Ilmo a little bit of a heart breaker.

We have Deputy Thornton, who's awkward, a little shy and clumsy, and closeted. Then, we have Ilmo Koskela who is organized, outgoing, patient, and proud. I could see Thornton being in need of a friend and community. I mean, he has a friend in Mulligan, but are they really friends or are they just coworkers, ya know? But I digress. Thornton and Mulligan join the Kalevala Knights, and they get their first taste of genuine comradery and kinship. Now imagine Deputy Thornton strolls into the clubhouse after a long day, and he sees Ilmo working on his bike. Sleeves rolled up, sweat on his brow, just cranking that hog or whatever you do with bikes, idk, lol. And Thornton is like oh my god, do I like men?? Yeah, bitch. But Thornton, he just can't wrap his brain around the idea that he is gay. He's internally panicking. He just wants Ilmo to like him so bad. Ilmo laughs at his jokes, asks about his day, seems genuinely concerned about him. What is this feeling!?? Homosexuality. And Ilmo, he sees how nervous Thornton is. He knows that Thornton is crushing and trying so hard to be in his good graces. He eats it up. And yeah, Thornton fucks up alot, but he puts so much effort into doing a job for Ilmo that Ilmo can't help but to find him endearing. Maybe a little exhausting at times, but that's his sweetie.

Anyways, does anyone share the vision here? I hope so. I'd love to see some love for these two. I'm trying to do a little doodle but I get one burst of creativity a year, and we'll see if I can pull it out.
