       “look, i know it’s was weird to call you over like this but the kids wanted to see you. thanks for reading them to sleep. it’s funny ‘cause the girls are so much older now, but ... they still enjoyed having you read to them. i guess i’m not the most animated person on the planet.” he laughed a little and sat on the railing of the porch, watching her. delilah and bella were eight and ten, and after their mom passed away jackson wasn’t sure what to do --- he wasn’t sure if he even wanted kids until he had them, especially being a high school teacher.  “i don’t want you to go, but i understand if you do.”
