Lake Varese, the current name for the ancient "Lake Guirร ," has been continuously inhabited since prehistoric times. Several paranormal phenomena have been recorded on its shores, including a story of a supernatural female figure, a kind of mermaid, who inhabits the lakebed and rules the underwater world. This being is attracted to very young males, causing their death by drowning to possess their souls, through which she can renew her magical power over the waters. Of this "Lady of the Lake" (I call her this because the protagonists always refer to her as "the Lady," unintentionally giving her a sacred connotation), there are eight cases recorded between 1946 and 1961, all with the same modalities and identical visions. The locations are always the first and second points. The protagonists avoided speaking about it except as adults.
