Damn that Genshin anon needs to chill. There's a lot of fun and interesting stuff about Genshin but there's also a lot of stuff that ought to be criticized. Anyone who tries to sanitize the conversation about any media only makes me suspicious about that very media and how truly pure it supposedly is.
methinks it largely has to do with it being a convergence between two common fandom mindsets:
1) criticism is being equated to “hate”. people are convinced to tie up their identity with the media they enjoy and so often gain the unhealthy habit of associating critique of a media they enjoy as being aimed at them personally, which makes them defensive.
2) shipping culture is a blackhole of bad habits that are perpetuated ad infinitum. paired with the above problem, applying any critical thought to the ramifications of unhealthy and even unsafe depictions of relationships is treated as both a personal attack AND being a “spoil-sport”.
i happen to be specifically pointing at issues i have with the source material, the game itself, and for people who only see criticism as a means of attack they wind up being super defensive.
