In the last couple of weeks, I’ve learned a lot about my semester topic. I learned statistics about diversity in engineering, possible reasons for those statistics, solutions to increase diversity and even some of the benefits of doing so. And although it’s been stressing, in the end I enjoyed learning about the topic. I also learned how to do a research paper in a proper way, even if it's not on the level of a peer reviewed publication. What I enjoyed the most was the interview, because I was able to have a conversation with a professor who is passionate about the topic of diversity in computer science.

First of all, what I’ve learned about writing and researching is important because it will definitely come in handy in future classes, not to mention that learning this is required to pass the class. I was also able to hone my skills as a writer, which is extremely important if I hope to work in a professional setting. I think what I learned about my topic could give me a different perspective of what is going on on my field.

Thanks to what I learned I can continue to become a better writer and researcher. It could benefit my professional career in the future, when I have to communicate or explain in simple terms what my software does, or what I hope to achieve. In regards to my civil involvement, I don’t think it will change that much from what it is today. Although diversity could be better, in the end is up to the person who wants to study engineering. The only thing stopping people from studying engineering is themselves.
