Four years after her debut for Israel, Ilanit still sounds like Karen Carpenter, but now she's going for broke. More delicate vocals! More soaring power chorus!More earnest quiet moments! And now she can throw in backing singers and a woodwind section all pushing right to the limits of a power ballad, without going over.
Technically, everything is there. What I don't get is a sense of connection to this singer or the song. Which means all the flourishes, all the effort, and all that enthusiasm, means nothing to me. It's there, I can see and hear what they are trying to do...
...but it's not working for me. Your mileage may vary.
