Battle of States at IIM Ranchi
IIM Ranchi celebrated the 69th Independence day with great fervour as the rest of the country. From fun activities like face painting to slogan writing competitions, the evening was infused with the spirit of patriotism. The highlight of the evening was “Battle of States” where students from different regions exhibited their state’s uniqueness showing a wonderful example of unity in diversity.
A face says it all and what could have been much better than colourful faces adorned with the tri colours to instil a sense of patriotism and pride. The evening started with the age old heritage of face painting with brightly coloured faces mirroring our National Flag. Talented students came out with creative face patterns beautifully bringing out the tri colours. The winners were A. Saketh and Abhishek Singh from PGDM 2015-17.If our painters mesmerised us with face painting our creative writers were not to be left behind. Slogans from enthusiastic students complemented the patriotic atmosphere. The winning slogan was given by Ajay Burman, a 1st year student of PGDHRM 2015-17 and went like this.
“Mar jaun agar to meri sirf itni pehchaan likh dena,
Mere khoon se mere maathe par "JANAMSTHAAN" likh dena,
Koi pooche tumse swarg ke baare mai toh,
Ek kaagaz ke tukde mai "HINDUSTAN" likh dena.”
India is a country of diversity, an amalgamation of different cultures and the beauty lies in the fact that people from various backgrounds live in peace and harmony. To portray this unique oneness, the Cultural Committee had organised Battle of States an event which unites one and all. India is a land of contrasts and enthusiastic students etched out what their state had to offer through folk dance, folk songs, plays etc. Spread across the length and breadth of the country, every state battled for the coveted Best State title.
The grand opening by Punjab initiated the competition and made way for the rest of the states. It was followed by the enthusiastic Malayalis from the backwaters of Kerala, dancing on Malayalam song. Next came the member of the seven sisters, Assam, with their uniqueness and antiquity extremely well carved out. Dressed in traditional attire mekhala chador, the girls mesmerised everyone by their beauty. The bihu dance performance was entertaining as well as an enriching cultural experience. Uttar Pradesh was next with its youthfulness and sporting attitude. From Amitabh Bachchan to Atal Bihar Vajpayee, each person from UP is proud to share such great legacy. Maharashtra’s lavani and Jharkhand’s Chhou enthralled the audience completely. The students went further explaining not only the culture richness of these states but their economic and industrial importance for the nation. “Aiji hasa mahri runak jhunak payal baje sa, mai na odu thari chunri, nachu mai sari sari raat” were folk songs from Rajasthan which showed us a glimpse of the era of dynasty, tradition and rich cultural heritage. The last team was Team India, which stood for unity, integrity and morality. We might be part of different states but a common thread binds all of us together which is a patriotic fervour towards India.
After a tough decision by judges Piyush Pranjal, Abhishek Sur and Shubhodeep, the Battle of States was won by Assam. The second position went to mystic Rajasthan followed by the enthusiastic Punjab. This concluded the cultural extravaganza by students IIM Ranchi. The celebrations can never end, the pride can never end and the fervour to uplift our country and lead towards development will always be etched in the mind of every student of IIM Ranchi.
