“‘ Enchanting’ he says,” Dorian’s smile widened, eyes glinting with amusement. “Professor, if I didn’t know any better, I might think you were flirting with me.”
Emmrich saw himself suddenly from Dorian’s perspective. On his knees, fondling the man’s leg and admiring him. What outrageous behavior. What untoward advantage-taking of someone so young and recently wounded, physically and emotionally. He felt his ears flame as he sat back. “My apologies. I… It was not my intention to put you at any unease.”
“Is that what I am?” Dorian wondered. “Uneasy?”

It was so pleasant to get out into the sunshine every once in a while. “Yes, it is a very nice morning,” Emmrich told the wisp as it whispered curiously around him. “Only I do wish it weren’t quite so hot.” His robes were sticking to him and the sun was baking him like a potato, even through the parasol. He might, he admitted to himself, have to trade his fashionable Watcher robes for something simpler, if only to survive long enough to complete his assignment in Minrathous.
The wisp landed on his shoulder and brought a cool breeze with it.
Emmrich sighed gratefully. “Thank you; that’s very kind.”
