Moby breathed in the fresh air as if she’d been drowning beneath a current and gripped onto him as sure as he was a life saver. She doesn’t remember how the fire started. She hadn’t started it, all she’d been doing since he left this morning was sleep off the large kill she feasted on late last night. So what had happened? By the time she drifted out of her deep sleep and realized, smoke had already started seeping into her lungs.
“I was just sleeping,” Moby gasped and pawed at his chest. As far as she knew, she hadn’t suffered any injuries. Soot, however, dirtied her clothes. It struck her, then, just how much he had lost now--- “I’m sorry about your things, Aedus, I’m sorry.” It was a murmur this time and she redirected her eyes toward the burning building. It seemed their apartment wasn’t the only one who had caught fire. Maybe it hadn’t been theirs after all, but still. She should have noticed it sooner. The smells, the heat... “I guess we’re going to have to move sooner than we wanted.”

“Please, let me go in your place. You’re sick. You need to stay home.” Moby folded both hands over one of his as he lay in his bed, Aedus’ skin absurdly warm from the fever surging through his veins. In a matter of seconds, she shifted into a copy of his own skin and he’d have his own golden eyes staring back at him. She had slipped into some of his clothes before, preparing just as he would for a formal gathering.
“You promised ‘em you’d go and this way you keep your promise. I know what wines you drink,” His voice sounded from her throat, but it sounded American until now. “I know your speech, and I’ve seen the photographs--- I can place the names. And it’s only for a little while, isn’t it? You stay here and rest, please. I promise I won’t embarrass you.”

“Look look look!” Moby swiped up a globe from the table, eager to get it away before anyone else around saw it. She had every intention to purchase it herself, she just wanted to show Aedus first. “Doesn’t this look so cool?” She held up the globe. Wrapped around the thickly glassed sphere was a purple dragon whose scales glittered. It looked fierce and beautiful, and inside the glass sat a small pile of treasure-- gold coins and a chest full of painted jewels. When she shook it, glitter swirled in the water. “I’m gonna get it. I don’t want to hide it away though,” Not in the chest in her ship. It wouldn’t see the light of day there and she wanted to enjoy it at least a little while. “Could I put it on the coffee table in front of the sofa at home?”
@ignisxavem liked for a violent starter!
Moby was resistant to many tings. Her body was as strong and resilient as her spirit and even poisons and most toxins were more likely to slow her down than kill her. Moby was not, however, invulnerable to curses or spells.
And Aedus pissed off the wrong witch.
Moby approached him in her wolf’s skin, snarling and baring her teeth with nothing less than volatile intent. Her eyes were blacked out as she stared at him, seeing not her fiery friend but a foreign enemy she did not recognize. And even when he spoke, she heard only a muffled, alien language she couldn’t understand while what she thought was instinct screamed at her to fight and maim. She could hardly deny it.
The wolf snapped her teeth and lunged at him with powerful claws facing forward and an open maw prepared to sink teeth into absolutely anything they could.

This was most certainly far from the first time she’d found herself in this situation. Bare and without a thread of cover besides the dirt that clung to her skin and caking blood. It also wouldn’t be the last but for all the fuss Aedus was having, all the attention he was giving her now, Moby realized he had no idea this was just another night for the rambunctious shapeshifter.
“He didn’t know what he was doing.” The heavy coat he slung over her shoulders provided an odd comfort, if only because of the chill settling over the neighborhood. It was also soft and quickly reminded the shapeshifter how desperately she wanted to return to a warm bed. “It was just a werewolf. Looked like a newbie heading too close to the houses.” Moby had managed to steer him away after asserting her dominance and her territory. She smiled at Aedus as he dabbed away at the several lacerations over her throat from thick claws. If they didn’t heal soon then they would become just another addition to her collection of marred skin.
“I don’t want to say ‘you ought to see the other guy’ but-- I kicked his ass.” Moby looked down, watching him dab. She reached for his hand to make him stop and spout some line about how that had been one of her favorite shirts. Immediately, her skin picked up the heat of his and her brow furrowed slightly, a tarnish to the previous smile she was just wearing. “Hey, Aedus, you’re burning up.”
🎶 for me to use my favorite line of the last song I listened to as a starter { roiben }
@ignisxavem / type of starter + black mambo. / accepting + open to all.
“dance with me and shake your bones, hmm ?”
roiben pauses to consider the gaggle of red caps, razor teeth gleaming beneath their gore-soaked hats. it seems even his presence isn’t enough to deter those eager to take a bite out of the night court’s unusual guest. “i think not. i’m to return our guest to the surface where he belongs. with all his fingers intact,” roiben adds, casting a significant stare to their dominoes and the stumps of their fingers. the pips are anywhere from bright red to dark brown, stark against the bones they’re painted on.
“if you’ll follow me,” the knight says to the phoenix, dismissing the other faeries with a cold look. luck has rarely favored roiben, but hopefully it will stay with the man long enough for roiben to get him out. things won’t end well for either of them if nicnevin hears roiben is spiriting away their visitor.
📹 for me to use a line from my favorite movie as a starter { Jiang }
@ignisxavem / type of starter + black pan.ther. / accepting + open to all.
“people die every day. that’s just a part of life around here.” jiang sighs, and he looks so much older than his youthful appearance would suggest. “is it bad that i’m so used to death, losing someone doesn’t even touch me anymore ?” it sends a ripple of grief through him, but it doesn’t touch beyond the surface anymore. he’s developed an indifference to death ( an aching, empty numbness that freezes anything in him that can care ), and it’s turning him into something he barely recognizes anymore.
